Default U.S. Commander in Afghanistan hints at troops’ evacuation deadline

U.S. Commander in Afghanistan hints at troops’ evacuation deadline

WASHINGTON: General Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, has told lawmakers that a troop drawdown could begin by 2013, while the White House said it expected U.S. forces out of the country by 2017-2018.

McChrystal told a visiting congressional delegation this week that a U.S. troop drawdown could begin by 2013, but the Pentagon has cautioned against setting specific dates for a withdrawal, saying any handover depends on conditions on the ground and no timeframe should be given for this.

White spokesman said that the evacuation of forces from Afghanistan would be completed by 2017-2018.

On the other hand, U.S. President Barack Obama will soon make a decision regarding sending or otherwise of more troops to Afghanistan.

pkd once again making up false news stories.

ONCE again you provide NO link to a source.

ONCE again you write a story so far fetched.

US troops will NOT be "evacuating" as soon as i saw that in the title i knew it was false.

US troops will NOT be leaving in 2013, the war is going to take much longer then that.

STOP with the false stories and STOP with the lies.

There is no need for abuse.

I did not see the link as it is disguised. The link should be at the bottom of the page in clear view.

pkd has a habbit of posting false news stories, so i assumed it was once again a false story.

Once again you have disguised the link as writing

It should be down the bottom in plain view.

On my screen it's black and for people who don't know about the rule it just looks like writing. Most people put the link down the bottom in plain view.

Try harder next time. Case closed.

Click the headline of the news and you will get the link.

Few individuals significantly alter the course of history. Fewer still modify the map of the world. Hardly anyone can be credited with creating a nation-state. Mohammad Ali Jinnah did all three- Stanley Wolpert

Buddy, just say you made a mistake and move on. Don't be troublesome when its not necessary to be so. Perhaps you're new to the forum world, otherwise this is completely acceptable. We do not expect people to follow APA formats for citing sources, but do very strongly encourage people to do it somehow.

Also if you have a problem with someone, complain about it privately. To make an accusation like someone has a habit of posting false news is just inviting them for a flame war. Which is something we don't want on this forum.

I already admitted i had made a mistake, and was simply suggesting ways for the mistake not to be made again.

2013 is perfectly doable, if the US keeps committing large forces like it recently did. It sucks to imagine another 4 years of war, but its manageable.

2018 would be too long.

It's good to set deadlines, I don't know why this mindset has penetrated into the American military that its bad to set deadlines. They are thinking more like politicians rather than military personnel. Just trying to save face. When Bush had the dilemma of doing something before the end of his term, even Bushes surge worked. Deadlines keep us all straight and goals oriented.

I'm not saying set unrealistic deadlines. The whole nations brightest minds are working on this war. They can't come up with realistic deadlines!? This is Project Management 101.
