Lockheed Martin Upgrades Battle Management System For Unit Level Troops

Lockheed Martin
Fri, 9 Jun 2006, 00:27

COLORADO SPRINGS: Lockheed Martin has delivered the latest Theater Battle Management Core System (TBMCS) Unit Level upgrade to U.S. Air Force bases worldwide. TBMCS provides air commanders with an integrated, internet-like capability to plan, direct, and control all theater air operations. This latest upgrade to the base level system will afford users with greater access to more command and control data as well as enhanced scheduling and resource management capabilities.

“We are honored to have such an important role in working with the TBMCS Unit Level system program office at Hanscom Air Force Base to provide a state-of-the-art product to support combat operations around the world,” said John Mengucci, vice president and general manager of Lockheed Martin’s Department of Defense Systems.

Spiral 8.5, the latest upgrade to the TBMCS Unit Level system, greatly increases the capabilities of air base leaders to track and manage all the resources on an air base, from buildings to weapons. For example, commanders can now point-and-click on any point on an air base map to identify buildings, their contents, the party responsible for the building and its operational condition. Airbases fighting the war against terror in Southwest Asia are currently using unit level Spiral 8.5 capabilities to coordinate the defense of their bases against enemy attacks while efficiently planning and flying thousands of missions per month.

The TBMCS Unit Level system is resident at over 46 locations around the globe. Lockheed Martin is also currently exploring a joint variant of the unit level system to provide the same situational awareness capability for other joint force resources.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Md., Lockheed Martin employs about 135,000 people worldwide and is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture, integration and sustainment of advanced technology systems, products and services. The corporation reported 2005 sales of $37.2 billion.
