Thumbs up Two Israeli soldiers captured seven killed in Hezbollah attack

Two Israeli soldiers captured seven killed in Hezbollah attack

BEIRUT: Heavy clashes erupted in southern Lebanon on Wednesday as Hezbollah announced that guerrillas have captured two Israeli soldiers along the border with Israel. Hezbollah's TV said the militia had killed seven Israeli soldiers and wounded several in the cross-border fighting. Two Lebanon civilians were killed in Israeli offensive in Lebanon.

This morning, the Hezbollah captured two Israeli soldiers near the border with occupied Palestine, and the captives have been moved to a safe area,'' the Hezbollah said in a statement. It said the captures were made to implement its promise to obtain the freedom of prisoners jailed in Israel.

Israel's Defense Ministry confirmed Israeli soldiers were captured. The Israeli army confirmed casualties among the soldiers, but did not comment the reports of possible deaths.

The military, meanwhile, ordered residents of Israeli towns along the northern border to seek cover in underground bomb-shelters.

Israeli aircrafts struck roads, bridges and Hezbollah guerrilla positions in southern Lebanon, Lebanese security officials said.

Israeli jets flew over Sidon and nearby areas and Lebanese army anti-aircraft opened up at them, the Lebanese officials said. Three bridges were damaged, the officials said.

The guerrillas who attacked Israel's northern border will pay a ``heavy price'' for their actions, Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said. ``There are people ... who are trying to test our resolve,'' he said. ``They will fail and they will pay a heavy price for their
    actions,'' he said.

Hezbollah's TV station reported that Israeli artillery was pounding the fringes of the villages of Aita el-Shaab, Ramieh and Yaroun in the hills east of the coastal border port of Naqoura.

Default Israel launches raids on Lebanon

    Israel launches raids on Lebanon

Israel has launched an assault in southern Lebanon using planes, tanks and gunboats, after the capture of two of its soldiers by Hezbollah militants.

Three Israeli soldiers were also killed in Hezbollah's cross-border raid on Wednesday morning.

Roads and Hezbollah outposts were hit and two civilians killed as Israel responded, with its first incursion in Lebanon since 2000.

Israel's PM Ehud Olmert described Lebanon's actions as an "act of war".

He said he held Beirut responsible for the fate of the two soldiers and that it would pay a "heavy price".

But Hezbollah spokesman Hussein Nubulsi told the BBC his organisation wanted to exchange the soldiers for Lebanese prisoners held in Israeli jails.

He said he was confident Israel would negotiate, although the Jewish state has made it clear in recent weeks it will not.

The news of the clashes comes as a major Israeli offensive is under way in the Gaza Strip. Israeli soldier Cpl Gilad Shalit was kidnapped by Palestinian militants in Israel more than two weeks ago.

    Major campaign

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan both condemned Israel's Lebanon offensive and called for the soldiers' release.

Israeli troops entered southern Lebanon to search for the two soldiers, for the first time since Israel ended its occupation of the area six years ago.

Army Chief of Staff Lt-Gen Dan Halutz said the Israeli military would "turn back the clock in Lebanon by 20 years" if the soldiers were not returned.

Several thousand reservists will be deployed along the border, officials say.

The call-up signals a large-scale campaign, as operations continue to free the soldier seized in Gaza.

Would not do any good, they're all allies with Israel, despite israel having islam as its number 1 enemy, just look at the mayhem at biblical proportions they're creating.

28 civilians in Beirut killed, 10 bridges blown away, international civilian airport bombed... In the past month the destruction they've brought upon Palestine, it's depressing as hell , inhumane treatment by an inhumane breed of jewish soldiers.

These Bloody Zionist are killing Innocent Civilians:@ .
Israel bombs Beirut airport, 47 killed in raids http://geo.tv/news_images/world/13-J...on-up_lpic.jpg BEIRUT: Israeli warplanes bombed Beirut's international airport and other areas in over 50 raids on Thursday and killed at least 47 Lebanese civilians.

Fighter jets swooped in on the airport, firing missiles on two runways, forcing the diversion of flights to neighbouring Cyprus and the closure of the newly renovated airport.

Lebanese police said 47 civilians were killed in a wave of Israeli attacks on the south Thursday after the Hezbollah action that Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert branded an "act of war". The Israeli attacks in south Lebanon alone killed 26 civilians and wounded dozens more, Lebanese security officials said. A family of 10 and another family of seven were killed in their homes in the village of Dweir near Nabatiyeh, the officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity as they were not authorized to speak to the press.

Hezbollah also claimed to have fired a volley of rockets on northern Israel early Thursday. Israel said one woman was killed and at least 5 wounded when Katyusha rockets fired from Lebanon slammed into the northern Israeli city of Nahariya on Thursday.

The Lebanese guerrilla group Hizbollah said it had fired 60 rockets at Nahariya, south of the Lebanese border.

Israel blockades Lebanon by sea, air BEIRUT: Israel bombed Beirut airport and began a sea and air blockade of Lebanon Thursday, in its intense military campaign to free two Israeli soldiers captured by Hezbollah guerrillas.

Lebanon's only international airport closed after bombs shattered its runways. Another Israeli air strike hit a television station on the outskirts of Beirut operated by Hezbollah.

Israeli gunboats took up positions outside Lebanon's ports, and all flights into the country have been cancelled. Military officials say the blockade is intended to cut off weapons shipments to Hezbollah.

This is Israel's first major incursion into Lebanon since it withdrew from that country six years ago.

This is not looking good, are we looking at another full scale war here?
If Israel enters Lebanon, Syria will retalliate.

That will put us back atleast two decades in time.

Reactions are not enough, this is time for UN to take action and send peecekeeping forces to the demilitarised zone.

Should have been done right after Syria retreated from Lebanon.

That was the whole point of getting syrian troops to retreat, now they're free to roam lebanon, continue the bombardment and the civilian casualty toll is at 55 now in Lebanon.

Yes UN should make the region demilitarised. Just as they should in the Occupied territories where israel doesnt even uphold the basic geneva conventions to the civilian population.

Egypt has 220 F-16s, UAE has 80 advanced F-16s, Saudi with their Eurofighters coming, but none of them have any intention on going to war. For now despite all the crimes the Israelis are committing, there's nothing we can really do but urge diplomacy and take it to the UN (who can't do squat) as israel is already in violation of several dozen UN resolutions. guess we just ahve to sit by and idly watch israelis kill civilians... and guerilla warfare from Hizbullah.

Well c'mon guys lets not forget, Lebanon started it! And it can all end if they just hand over the 2 guys back!

It's needless. Lebanon did this taking orders from Iran and Syria, since they thought Israel won't open a battle on two fronts. The only way Israel would sweat if Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Syria, all open fronts simultaneously.

If such a thing happens, what will be the set goal of the military offense? Invasion? Highly unlikely, Israel will nuke Arab countries before it allows that.
