Bomb alert at UN HQ
UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations evacuated the three basement levels of its headquarters in New York and called in the bomb squad to check a “suspicious car” on Friday before police gave the all-clear hours later.
UN fire safety officials would not allow access to cars parked in the underground garage while they were investigating, according to an announcement repeated throughout the 40-floor skyscraper on New York’s East River. “The suspicious car was discovered by a sniffer dog,” said one UN official on condition of anonymity. After several hours of investigating, police said there was nothing to worry about and the basement area was reopened, the official said. reuters
