China turned his back first from 1960 when China critized revisionist in USSR (but now china forget what they said about socialism at this time) Vietnam tried to be neutral becourse it theory, China attacked Soviet Union 1969 and stop help to Vietnam what Zhou EnLai promised to Vietnam when making impress on Vietnam to show role of China in the world affairs by Geneva 1954. 1972 china begged USA for normalisation. 1976 -1978 backed Polpot attacked Vietnam. 1979, himself China attacked Vietnam.

In the 1970s, CCP wanted us against the Soviet.
The issue between China and Soviet was not related to Vietnam. Why the CCP's leaders wanted Vietnam must go against the Soviet? Why they did not let us remain a friend of both countries as previously?
Unfortunately, the follow-up generations of China's leaders forgot about Deng's last will to hide China's fang for the next 100 years and grow in strength, they revealed their fangs only 15 years after Deng's warning.
The end result is that China's likely to see Asian NATO targeted at it in the near future, all because Hu Jintao ignored Deng's warning.
Deng commands my respect - China is what it is because of this man's vision. He was the reason China not only grew but also grew without attracting any of the attention until it has really grown up.
"Keep a cool head and maintain a low profile. Never take the lead - but aim to do something big." - one of his quotes.
Ho Chi Minh said: "Nothings is more expensive than Independence and Freedom".
Do you know what does it means ?
Mao did start the diplomatic meeting with Nixon, but it was served to contain against USSR, while Mao still supported Vietnam at any cost.
Deng did cooperate with USA since he believed that the Soviet camp was a bigger threat than USA.
In fact China made its final withdraw of helps from vietnam in 1970.
Vietnam & China Expand Military Ties
Taiwan, by buying the 4 warships, clearing indicates that she is going to take a more proactive role in these offshore disputes. Whether she joins hands with China or not is immaterial because both unlikely to go against each others' claims for basically both have the same basics for claims. Having another voice will only strengthen each other claims. Secondly because she is an ally of the US it will add more weight for US not to be involved, although I don't think the US is going to be part of the disputes anyway.
Whatever the outcome will be, it can only be a win win situation for China and Chinese people. This cooperation makes a step closer for our future unification in our people's mind. Party leaders and ideologies come and go and they are more or less influenced by the populace of the time.
