China did not cooperate with USA until after the death of Mao.

Taiwan, by buying the 4 warships, clearing indicates that she is going to take a more proactive role in these offshore disputes. Whether she joins hands with China or not is immaterial because both unlikely to go against each others' claims for basically both have the same basics for claims. Having another voice will only strengthen each other claims. Secondly because she is an ally of the US it will add more weight for US not to be involved, although I don't think the US is going to be part of the disputes anyway.

Whatever the outcome will be, it can only be a win win situation for China and Chinese people. This cooperation makes a step closer for our future unification in our people's mind. Party leaders and ideologies come and go and they are more or less influenced by the populace of the time.
