Hundreds of prominent Muslim clerics in India have demanded that India break off diplomatic ties with Israel, the Indo-Asian News Service ( IANS ) reported Monday. Defense trade betweenIsrael and India has developed rapidly and is valued in billions of dollars.

Shi’ite Muslim clerics also called for shutting down Indian’s embassy in the United States.

Relations with Israel are not expected to be affected, but thedemand by the growing Muslim population in India serves as an early warning signal because of that growth.

The clerics accused Israel and the United States of being the"biggest sponsors" of international terrorism and thatIndia should focus on improvingrelations with the Palestinian Authority, Iran and Syria.

Kalbe Jawwad, a cleric and member of the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board, alleged that there has been a "flood of terror attacks in India" since Israel established an embassy inthe country. He also accused that the Congress-led union government of "defaming the Muslim community as a whole.”

The Muslim leaders also want more privileges for their community and a larger representation in the government.

I find this attitude hilarious-particularly that of communists..they want us to cut off relationship with US and Israel when these countries have never directly affected India's security..in fact Israel helped us out when we were in dire need...but they dont have problem when Pakistani terrorists come and butcher ordinary indians..

Israel's friendship is important for India.. As i have read in the forum, Israel helped india in 1965 war as well as 1999 war without which india could be in a precarious position.India helps keep israel's defense sector stable with its purchases and israel helps india with latest hardwares. Good partnership.

I find this attitude hilarious-particularly that of communists..they want us to cut off relationship with US and Israel when these countries have never directly affected India's security..in fact Israel helped us out when we were in dire need...but they dont have problem when Pakistani terrorists come and butcher ordinary indians..

I remember during UPA 1, the Communists declared publicly that they will have Indo-Israeli ties cut...but later nothing happened, most probably Armed Forces (& Congress) may have told them to take a hike OR the reality of national security dawned on them.

Israel's friendship is important for India..
