Three Vietnamese soldiers in connection with the abuse and death of two rare monkeys have been arrested and will appear in military court on a later date.
According to Tuoi Tre News, one of the young men named Ngyuan Van Quang, uploaded photos showing the brutal killing of the monkeys.
In the photos, the man was seen posing with the carcasses and even forcing one of the monkeys, which is believed to be pregnant, to smoke.
His parents and neighbours have confirmed that the man in the photos is Quang. The photos have shocked the online community in Quang.
On the same day, Phan Tuan, chief of the provincial department of forest management, told Tuoi Tre that the slaying was believed to have occured in Sa Thay District in the central highlands province of Kon Tum.
Col Nguyen Van Hai, head of Tay Nguyen Command's Military Prosecutor's Office, told the Voice of Vietnam that the soldiers are being questioned and that they will be dealt with under military law.
Vietnamese soldiers held over deaths of rare monkeys
Vietnamese authorities have detained three soldiers suspected of torturing and killing two rare monkeys.
One of them, Nguyen Van Quang, who is serving in the Tay Nguyen Command of the Vietnamese army, posted photos of the monkeys on his Facebook page last week.
The photos showed one of the monkeys, believed to be pregnant, being made to smoke a cigarette before it was tortured and killed.
What is more worrying about the incident is that the young soldier who posted the photos on Facebook did not think he did anything wrong, BBC reported.
