Pakistan’s destroyer class Ship ‘Zulfiquar’, arrived in Sri Lanka on a goodwill visit to strengthen existing ties and the level of cooperation between Sri Lanka and Pakistan, the Sri Lanka navy said
It sid PNS ‘Zulfiquar’ which arrived on Saturday in the Colombo Port was ceremonially welcomed by the Sri Lanka Navy in the presence of Pakistan Defence Adviser Colonel Syed Khurram Hassnain Alam.
PNS “Zulfiquar” is 123 metres long, 13.2 metres wide and 30.7 metres in height with a displacement of 3143.9 tonnes and a crew of 14 officers and 188 sailors.
The Ship’s Commanding Officer Captain Zahid Ilyas called on Sri Lankan Navy Commander Vice Admiral Thisara Samarasinghe at the Navy Headquarters.
The Navy said that as members of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), both countries share much in common with educational, cultural, trade and military exchange programmes between the two nations playing a vital role in strengthening the existing diplomatic ties.
Sri Lanka Navy in particular has benefited much from training courses offered by the Pakistan Navy at their prestigious training establishments, the navy added.
