Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Sunday ordered Venezuela's military to prepare for a possible armed conflict with Colombia, saying his country's soldiers should be ready if the United States attempts to provoke a war between the South American neighbors.

Chavez said Venezuela could end up going to war with Colombia as tensions between them rise, and he warned that if a conflict broke out "it could extend throughout the whole continent."

"The best way to avoid war is preparing for it," Chavez told military officers during his weekly television and radio program. Venezuela's socialist leader has also cited a recent deal between Bogota and Washington giving US troops greater access to military bases as a threat to regional stability.

The government of Colombian President Alvaro rejected what it called "threats of war from Venezuela's government," saying it would protest Chavez's comments to the Organization of American States and the UN Security Council.

Why on one side they want to ally with US to get benefit from it, on the other side, they can’t conceal their glee when US, their ally-to-be, is/to be in trouble?

Why on one side they accept communist Soviet aids, on other side they condemn communism?

Can we call it ungrateful?

Can we consider them unreliable friend, or enemy-friend, if they are our friend?

CIA has always been doing such stupid things. Open evidences are there in the case of Bay Of Pigs episode during Kennedy's ruling when CIA tried to assassinate Castro of Cuba in order to dismantle it's government.

I've been always wondering this too ..

But, there's another side of the picture tas well. Indian government dupes the US government in regards with the points you've raised. And when there's a time for some help, India shouts out for help from US. And US is all ready to help. So can we also say that American government is getting duped by Indians, perchance?

Perhaps read a bit about Chavez before jumping on the anti US band wagon the guy is wrecking his own economy, its only kept afloat buy americans buying his oil.

He has been caught numerous times supplying arms to rebels in colombia, the latest were a delivery of swedish At-4's he forgot to file the serial numbers off.

The US is to south america what Israel is to the middle east, have a lousy economy, trouble with other countries just blame it all on america and hope enough people are stupid enough to belive it.

If america was the all powerfull monster some try to portray it as Chavez would have had a glorious state funeral years ago.

Chavez is too clever to actually go to war with Colombia. He knows his forces would get their clocks cleaned. HOWEVER, he LOVES attention. Honduras is not going his way so time to stir something else up. IF the CIA were actually "operational" in SA, Chavez would have been taken out long ago. With Democrat Progressives in charge of the CIA for the next 3 years, minimum, Chavez has clear sailing to have maximum fun. Won't do the Venezuelan people any good though ....
