Azerbaijan says it has "the full right" to resort to military action in order to liberate the Nagorno-Karabakh region, which it lost to Armenia in the 1990s.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said on Friday that if an upcoming meeting with his Armenian counterpart ends short of a deal on the matter "then our hopes in negotiations will be exhausted and then we are left with no other option" than to reclaim the territory by force, the Reuters news agency reported.

"We are doing that because we never excluded and we do not exclude that option. We have the full right to liberate our land by military means," he added.

Azerbaijan lost control over the region in a rebellion by local Armenians, who were supported by Yerevan's military. The conflict killed tens of thousands of people rendering more than a million others homeless.

"That meeting must play a decisive role in the process of negotiations," the Azerbaijani president noted as he was preparing to attend talks with Armenia's Serzh Sargsyan in Munich on Sunday.

The international community has refused to recognize the de facto rule of the ensuing Nagorno-Karabakh Republic.

Even Iran supported Armenia despite of the fact that Azerbaijan is a Shia dominated country.

The defeat against Armenians had many factors, and you cannot compare those times to now. Azerbaijan had 2 coups during these times. Our forces had taken half of Karabakh but were stopped by Russian forces there during 92 offensive. The defeat surely wasn't in the nads of "Armenians".

And now, Azerbaijan surpasses Armenia in every field. We invite Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians to join Azerbaijan and Armenia to end their military occupation. Peace is the best way of course and its the first priority. But our military must be also ready for a war opinion because talks give no result, and in that, we are far ahead of our enemy. Maybe you don't know the feeling of how it is for 20% of your territority to be under occupation, but I do.

So what is the guarantee that Russia wont support Armenians this time?

As far as research goes my research says that the Azeri's were also supported by Chechen and Afghan militiants in 1992 war.

Did you read my post? As I said, don't compare 92 to now. No, we were not stronger then our enemy during these years. And we had much more disadvantages aswell. Right now, Azerbaijan's military budget are 2.9 billion USD. Thats twice of the whole Armenia's state budget (1.4 billion). And taking a general overiew on both countries military and economy will say you the same thing. That is irrelevant, unless Russia directly involves like they did in South Ossetia, but that is very unlikely.

About militans, first of all, if there was a such thing, they came and fought for us by their own will. Secondly, there was no such thing. There have never been any source. I don't understand why its spread all over the place when there is no resource, show me some pics or something then please.

You seem to disproof our right for military solution. Let me ask, what would you do if 20% of your country was military occupied by another country. What would you do if a million on your people were forced to abandon their homes in the occupied lands. Armenia is not a challenge for is, if it were only Armenia, we would have taken our occupied lands by now. But the real danger is Russia. They back Armenia and will defend their interests in Azerbaijan. So do not compare us with Armenia.

The only time an Arab came to subcontinent for conquest was in 711 by Muhammad bin Qasim.Rest of the Islamic invaders were Turks,Mongolians,Afghans and hybrids.
