Indian Tu-142 Aircrafts – Update (Exclusive)

Ten Tu-142s entered Indian service in April 1988 for long-range surface surveillance and anti-submarine warfare. According to the 'Times of India,' on 5 Feb 2006, India held negotiations with Russia to procure 6 to 8 more Tu-142 aircraft.

However these negotiations were called off in 2003. It was likely that the aircraft that would have been procured, would have been refurbished ex-VVS storage stocks.

It is believed that an air-launched variant will be purchased to arm the Tu-142 aircrafts currently in service & six to eight additional aircraft being sought by the Navy. If an air-launched version of the Alfa is procured, it is anticipated that India's Tu-22M3 Aircrafts will eventually be equipped to fire them.

Isn't this major mistake enough to prove Global-security.org is a BS Website....

Russia offers TU-22M3 strategic bombers to India

Russia has offered to sell several long-range Tupolev Tu-22M3 bombers to India, Russian Vice Premier and Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov said on Wednesday.

He said the offer was made to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh during talks in Moscow but India has not yet responded.

"We made the offer to the Indian side when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was here. The Indian side has not yet come back to us on the issue, and it would be impossible also to take a decision within 24 hours," Ivanov was quoted as saying.

Ivanov said that India had earlier considered leasing the bombers but due to "technical reasons" Moscow is unable to lease the aircrafts.

The leasing of up to three long-range TU-22M3 (Backfire-C) bombers was part of the aircraft carrier 'Admiral Gorshkov' package, which also included leasing two Shchuka-B (Akula class) nuclear submarines currently under construction at Komsomolsk-on-Amur shipyard.

Ivanov underscored that Tu-22M3 is "not a strategic" weapon as it has a range of up to 7,000 kilometres. The bomber capable of carrying 3 Kh-22 cruise missiles is the main bomber of the Russian Air Force and Navy.

Talks for leasing three Tu-22M3 bombers were on since last five years in a package with the acquisition of the Gorshkov aircraft carrier, diplomatic sources said.

So still India have these leased aircraft in our Air-force ???
No we don't have these bombers now. Thats why we are looking for bombers.

PAK-DA
I don't think Russia will give India PAK-DA. Its Russia B2 Bomber. Like US these bombers won't be available to any other country. But still if its offered then India should go for PAK-DA.

Why dont we get a little realistic ?

WHats the point in even talking abt PAK-DA ? That design has still not even got off the drawing boards. Even if the design gets approved and Moscow gets the required funding, its not coming before 2025 or may be even 2030.

Lets just forget abt PAK-DA for now.
