Secondly, there's Iran - a relatively stable country, friendly government and people, and a much better route. Ever studied the map of the area? Why would Russians risk their commerce by routing it through Taliban territory?

Pakistan is or has shifted towards China. It makes sense for Russia to move in as well. It's in the interests of China, Russia and Pakistan.

So what you're saying is that Russia moved to India because Pakistan allied with the US?
Not because India is a much larger regional player in terms of demography, geography, economy, armed forces, influence etc etc?

Do you really think Pakistan is the centre of the world?

Even if your theory of $$ being the incentive for Indo-Russian relationship, how exactly is that going to go away anytime soon considering India's status on the world economic high table and Indian thirst for defence equipment (at least based on the current scenario)?

lol.. Russia has many more interests besides counter terrorism. What do you think the Soviet-Afghan war was over?

Please to be enlightening us about the SU-Afghan war. Or how and why the soviets walked into Afghanistan at the request of the communist government, or how and why Pakistan decided to meddle there by pushing in mujaheedin to fight the "Godless communists"? Or why after the war there was a stable communist Afghan government before Pakistani backed mujaheedina and then later the Taliban destroyed whatever was left of Afghanisthan?

The only thing Russia is interested from Pakistan is its co-operation (atleast officially) in counter-terrorism efforts. FYI, Russia is facing fundamentalist fueled terrorism.

Cant you get this through your head? This is just a simple case of politics and interests in Pakistan and Afghanistan outweighing any interests in India.

Pakistan is not a hen that lays golden eggs, atleast not now and not in the near future. I can understand why PAK may be running around to try and gather support from every corner but lets not make this mistake about over stating PAK's geographical position and how it can change the world. All that you are stating now was true from ages ago and PAK did zero while it was in bed with the US as far as Russia is concerned. If one thing is evident it is how PAK can easily change friends when its desperate.

You guys fail to understand this since everything is seen through India. Your desperate situation will only lead other countries to exploit you more that includes China and Russia. Having said that do not expect the Russians to be on your side when it comes to India. Will Russia take advantage of PAK right now? ofcourse why not?

Just take a step back and rethink PAK's desperation and how it can be exploited at this time. You are welcome to rebuild your relations with Russia but imagining it would work against India is a false assumption. For all you know it may work very well for India.

Indian Comments of a insecure mind ....

The biggest military buyers these days are Middle east, and they are buying the bulk of their equipment from West ( USA / France).
I agree that has to do with west's relationship with them, it also has a lot to do with
the senior officer's weight towards west.
This is where Pakistan can help Russia.
Many 3 Star and plus officers in Middle east are students of Pakistani Officers.

Secondly, the middle east market in general has been almost off limits as far as non defense economic cooperation with Russia is concerned.
Again, knowing that Pakistan is the shortest route, and knowing the China is getting the shortest route anyway.
Why do you think the Russians would want to keep out of it ?

Thirdly, as a matter of common sense, why wouldn't the russians want to improve relations with any one ?

Just the fact that the indians have flocked to put together all sort of debate, reflects a deeper sense of insecurity.

The indians have done business and let me say BIG business with Russia.
But, let me warn here ; Indians have not been stung with USA before. ( we have experienced it, so we talk with experience).
Nuclear Plants --- France and USA will share that cake. If you don't believe me; watch and see.
MMRCA ---- USA will NEVER let this go away so soon, they will spoil the deal if they can't have it.

You will be surprised to see how much of INDIAN budget will be produced in the US embassy.

Why wouldnt it fight India? There's not much stopping it except $$ deals which India now has started rejecting.

If they can get more money out of Pakistanm + security, then why not?
