PAKISTAN AUSTRALIA JOINT MOUNTAIN MILITARY EXPEDITION.

Lieutenant General Muzammil Hussain, Inspector General Training and Evaluation visited expedition Base Camp to meet the Australian Army Expedition Team at Spantik.
To share the vast experiences of Pakistan Army in mountaineering, a joint mountain expedition of Pakistan and Australia is on the way for summit attempt of Spantik. Australian Army Expedition Team is comprising six members headed by an experienced mountaineer Major Zayc. Lieutenant Colonel Ahsan Kayani from Pakistan Army is leading the team including nine members.

Why is that gora feeling so cold even before the start of expedition?

well i will take this as an opportunity to shed some light on Spantik.
it is an absolute gorgeous peak.

Spantik Peak is known by various names of its beauty and grandeur. The northwestern face on the Nagar side with its bright red color of golden pillar is called “Ghenish Chhish”, which in Brushaski (local language) means Golden Mountain. Ghinesh in Broshaski also means Queen. The peak is so majestic and beautiful that the local people call it Queen Mountain. Conway named it as Golden Parri, which means Golden Fairy and some call it Pyramid Mountain too. The peak is located in the Rakaposhi and Haramosh massif near Barpu and Garumbar glaciers.

Most recently Spantik 7027 has been a favorite for climbers to training themselves for higher elevation. Lying to the south of the great Hispar glacier and standing above upper Chogolungma, Spantik offers an charming climb. The approach path to the beautiful campsites along the Chogolungma Glacier offers vistas of mountain scenery with innumerable high peaks. The climb along the Southeast ridge is easily achievable amongst 7000m summits in the Karakorum. The ridge rises 2700m over its 8-km length affording the several safe campsites. It is a straight ascent with a gradient of 30º to 45º with a mixture of some hard and easy patches. The Southwest route also goes along a snow ridge of moderate angularity. The summit on clear days presents grand views of neighboring Rakaposhi, Diran, Malubiting, Ultars, Battura Group, Haramosh, the entire Shimshal Mountains, and K2 far beyond and many more. The scene is absolutely breathtaking.

Although technically easy but Spantik is for mountaineers who have the experience of climbing as independent roped parties on snow and glaciers and at least have been on some smaller peaks of AD level. High altitude experience and an exorbitant physical condition as well as regular practice are needed to be on this expedition.

it is not a very difficult climb for professionals but still need training for amateurs to attempt this. well regardless your ability to climb it or not, this is a must visit place.

Can someone explain why the Pakistani soldier on te far right has what appears to be an armadillo patch/emblem? What is the significance of that? I do know that armadillo have a leathery hard shell/armor...

P.S I'm not exactly sure if it is an armadillo but it certainly appears to be one.


Maybe the Aussies could have arrived with a koala bear emblem on their sleeve.

Australian guy looks like a contractor to me does not look military his standing stance, and his cloths all look like civilian contractor

Also its not a good idea to help train , soldiers of a nation that actively participates against muslim countries

International missions should be conducted only at neutral zones not , critical flash points

Specially since we do not have any alliance what so ever with Australia they have routinely sideded with NATO

when we were young we used to see trailer after trailer of mainly western tourists heading north,in summer months..But thanks to bad international economy,budget airlines and bad publicity along with bad security situation, tourism in Pakistan has suffered.
I am not a big fan of sending too many tourists up there is those pristine areas..But good to see mountaineers back..

It's not below freezing, no training can protect you from cold. death occures with in minutes in sub zero climates with the kind of clothing everyone is wearing.

but some people feel less cold then others i my self live in rooms 20 digree every thime but when some one enter in my room or office he feel too much cold there lolz

Middle of summer base camp at 3800m probably above zero when the pic was taken, nice sunny day could even be warm.
