India’s Unlimited Defence Purchases

As long as it remains at acceptable percentage(2-3) of GDP, I dont think Indians will oppose it.
Most of the time, the defence budget goes back to center because Defence ministry is unable to spend it.
At least they are buying some hardware now a days, for close to 2 decades, they simply sat on files.

India has 7% inflation per year, barely exceeding its nominal growth rate. India's real defense budget is probably closer to 6% and rising.

I think India will go into recession in 2012 because of military overspending.

 Who taught you economics?

Nominal growth = real growth rate + inflation

What about Pakistan. Your economy is in worse shape, doesn't stop you guys from buying weapons. Sanctimonious much?

I also said that defence is most important and we have no right to object on India's Defence Purchases.... re-read the post dude.

You should ask same question to Pakistan government why they increased defense budget by 12% when 24 million people were suffering from flood, poverty in increasing, deep economic chaos, Pakistan railway, Pakistan Steel Mills, Power sector are seeking much needed bailout.

I'm neither asking u this question nor I'll ask my government because I said defence is more important than anything...

wow I learn something new today. 7% growth -7% inflation = 0 % growth.

Also India will not make payment for purchases in one shot. Its paid in installments over the years.

when news comes " India faces old weapons problems"

Pakistani guys (on PDF) " why Indians don't buy weapons?"

when India buys weapons

Pakistani guys (on PDF) " first spend on development then on defense"

my highly intelligent Pakistani friends ( and their friends who are descendants of superpower patron of land of pure)

development takes place when there is peace and stability'

in India peace will prevail only when its neighbors will let India focus on investment

they will do only when India is strong and has well trained, advanced AF, army and navy and

might SMF.

so India needs to spend enough on defense which it is doing now

u are an idiot, GDP growth rate is calculated at factor cost, which essentially negates the effect of inflation.....and india will not go into recession only because u think it will......only if wishes were horses....

India is spending heavy expenses on defence deals and signing contract at really high prices compared to any other country. That is why many defence equipment supplier offering India to make more profit.while on other hand, India is misusing its own Tax payer 's money.

wow this guy continues to amaze me ...... he shld be granted noble prize for redefining economics basics
and some of this order are being placed by money which were allocated to defense purpose in previous budgets but remained unutilised cause of our babus incompetence to take decision ....
its time india stop taking moral high ground and be ready to take on anyone if time comes

really tell us one deal that is overvalued.......and we are using our money far more effectively than pakistan....indian people stand united behind the government's military modernization, unlike pak army which has to give constant clarifications about its high budget....

There are many real examples, One was I think about C130J or Globe master plane where reports came that US sold other nations at low prices compared to India.

second is recent 1.5 billion deal for 22 attack apache-3 helicopters.

actually they are under FMS..i heard that sales are of high cost under this.

I think countries that spend money on purchasing from other countries are not that succesful when push comes to shove. I mean look at some of arab countries spend a lot on weapons eg iraq didnt do them much good, I know that india has spent a lot on developing on indigenous weapons system but i think indians would be better of developing their own industries

we are constantly trying to develop our own industries, thats why we have an offset clause in our defence aquisitions from overseas...
