TU-160

Russian Air Force spokesman Col. Vladimir Drik said "Strategic Fleet's patrolling area which coveres Atlantic and Pacific oceans and the Arctic Sea, now coveres the Black Sea region as well!

The Russian General Staff Gen. Nikolai Makarov said, "The patrol flights should not upset anyone. These flights adhere to all international agreements "

whats the name of these planes

Tu-160 , Blackjack /white swan
Tu-95 , also known as Tu-20, Bear

The question is why use a Tu-160 for maritime patrol rather than and Il-38 that would be a heck of a lot cheeper and wouldnt piss anyone off?

cool, maybe we'll see some interceptions by Turkish jets then!

First one is "Bear" second one is "Blackjack". Personally I think no AirForce is complete without bombers. You need bombers to really send your enemy shaking. And besides no country can call itself really powerful without those.

God when will I see real bombers in the RSAF instead of using modified CASA/IPTN CN-235 for that role? Blackjacks would be awesome for the RSAF and it will give it extended reach and capabilities.

Does this look like a proper bomber to you??

since they are strategic nuclear bombers guess it is related with this nato ballistic missile defense thing

You dont like the tornados?

The Tornados are excellent bombers but as you can see the CN-235 can carry bigger bombers and in more numbers so its sortie carries more destruction power which will save the Jets for pin-point hits somewhere else.

Please be a little more appreciative of tornado.
It is so much more than what you are prescribing.

Lastly, missiles are a lot more effective than bombers.

If that was the case, world's leading airforces are idiots for maintaining a huge fleet of advanced aircraft/bombers?
