World News: Pakistan to ask for Interpol help arresting ex-president Pervez Musharraf - thestar.com

ISLAMABAD—Pakistan will ask Interpol for help in arresting ex-president Pervez Musharraf for his failure to prevent the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, the interior minister said Tuesday.

Rehman Malik said the government was seeking Musharraf’s arrest because he allegedly failed to provide adequate security for Bhutto, who was killed in a gun and suicide bomb attack in 2007.

He made the comments in a televised address to lawmakers in Sindh province, Bhutto’s political stronghold.

Interpol, based in Lyon, France, had no immediate comment.

Musharraf, a one-time U.S. ally, went into self-exile in Britain in 2008 after being forced out of the presidency he secured in a 1999 military coup. The current government is being run by Musharraf’s political rivals, and the president is Bhutto’s widower and political heir.

A Pakistani court issued an arrest warrant for Musharraf last year over the allegations.

Musharraf, an ex-army general who wants to return to Pakistan to contest what will be bitterly contested elections likely this year, said the government was playing politics over the case. Musharraf has repeatedly denied any legal responsibility for the killing.

“This is all politics,” he told ARY television station on Tuesday. “It’s just point scoring and nothing else.”

first arrest terrorist hafiz sayeed inside your country then you can think about arresting ex-generals outside country

why interpol? it's not as if Musharraf is hiding somewhere. Pakistani govt knows where musharraf is & his address too.. why don't they just apply for his extradition in that country? maybe rehaman malik thinks he can fool the public by coming out with these kinda rhetorics. din't he know at the time of giving guard of honour to the ex-prez that the security provided to the slain leader was not adequate enough? afterall he was incharge of her security at the time... wasn't he?

im not big fan of mushi uncle but im pretty sure that he has nothing to do with BB's murder.

it's called PPP politics; it's called diversionary tactics to deflect from issues that DO matter and DO affect Pakistani nation (e.g. plethora of corruption cases against top PPP 'operatives')

guys Pak army will NEVER let this CIA sponsored demoCRAZY to humiliate one of their own like this, especially their former Commander in chief!

The army knows how to protect and DEFEND one of its own! And besides Mushy the lion was NOT an arm-chair general, he has served in battlefields of 1965 and 1971 and other wars and was general who led from the front! It is these kinds of officers and generals that army personnel love and like!

So dont worry, InshahAllah Pak army will NEVER let these PPP and PML-N baboons touch him!

May Allah bless Mushy for service Pakistan from 1999 to 2008. He transformed Pakistan and made us one of the most powerful economically stable countries in the world! Now that INFLATION is sky rocketing, COMMON man on the streets of Pakistan MISS the Mushy times, (the times when common man was prospering and earning good money and inflation was all time low)!

Probably a veiled threat by Mr Malik to Armed Forces that you don't think about getting our guy ( Haqqani or Zardari) or we'll get your guy ( Musharraf).May God give Musharraf good health and long life with peace and happiness. He served his country.

Instead of arresting legit terrorists and criminals in Pakistans or even doing anything productive for the county, they want to waste time and money and go after Musharraf.

God save us from these idiots :disagree:

Is it possible that Musharraf was behind the attacks? Yes. But without any evidence I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. And I find it ridiculous that they would arrest him "because he allegedly failed to provide adequate security for Bhutto".
