The Exercise Shanti Doot-3 is aimed at ensuring tactical proficiency and technical competence of leaders and soldiers for supporting a unit’s Mission Essential Tasks List in a UN peacekeeping mission.

The goals and objectives of this exercise are to increase participants’ interoperability and peacekeeping skills prior to deployment in UN missions.

This exercise is focused on preparing militaries from many countries to participate in United Nations peacekeeping missions around the world. The name of the exercise is chosen from the Bengali word ‘Shantidoot’ which means “Ambassador of Peace”.

The exercise will commence with an opening ceremony on 8 March 2012 by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina as the Chief Guest and will declare the opening of the exercise with a colourful gathering at Rajendrapur Cantonment.

After two weeks of training the exercise will be declared closed on 21 March by Major General Tarique Ahmed Siddique, rcds, psc (Retd), the Hon’ble Adviser on Security and Defence Matters to the Hon’ble Prime Minister.

STAFFEX will be conducted to train the officers on staff skills required by military officers to operate in UN Headquarters in peacekeeping missions.

The training will be facilitated by instructors with extensive peacekeeping training experience. 15 countries are taking part in this exercise, this will only increase our military's reputation in the world.

I really hope that after this, US invites us for desert warfare training as most of our peacekeeping areas are in deserts

Good to see our international reputation going up :D

Well we conduct jungle warfare, riverine warfare training every now and then. But desert warfare is something that we are not familier with.

I am not saying have our whole armed forces be trained in desert warfare, just a medium sized group so that they become familier with the conditions they might face during peacekeeping in countries like sudan

Our navy isnt a green water navy, thus we cant sail all the way over there to fight pirates. Furthermore, there isnt much economic incentive fighting the pirates.

U guys can come to our counter Insurgency and Jungle warfare school for training. Even US army and special forces comes here for training.
