Why go for cobras, why not ground attack aircraft?

..................
Deadly against tanks no doubt, why waste "expensive" depleted uranium bullets against simple targets?

It can use other types of bullets too, including those for anti-personnel operations if so desired.

A-10's for pakistan.....? You must be imagining things.....either that, or my entire being just got shifted over to another dimension.

No you just came to reality........Welcome, now learn to use Google.

Point is simple, 4 things to consider firepower, psychological effect, cost, accuracy. In the cost of 1 hour of flight time of Eurofighter/F-15 which are used in afghanistan, 2 or 3 stukas could be screamingly diving towards the target with deadly accuracy creating havoc at the insurgents on the ground. It is said that predators cause collateral damage, in this case the issue of collateral damage will be avoided as well.

There is -NO- alternative to a capable attack helo like the Cobra or Apache because it gives you options which no other fixed wing machine does. If i am a general fighting a land based combat with 30000 men aboard mechanized units , armored vehicles , IFV's , MBTs , APCs , Mobile SAMs , Mobile SR-Missile launchers , Howitzers , tracked artillery , and mobile cruise missile launchers, what i would need is round the clock air cover where F-16s -JFTs come in.

But most of all , what i would want to be protected and have an offensive punch at times of need is to have at least 70-120 high end attack helos which would provide me with matched speed attack capability , air cover , they can land in the battlefield , fly low , and can hover and return fire. I would need my choppers to take out enemy armor , provide a flying anti jamming and jamming platform , and a critical degree of situational awareness and birds eye view of the battlefield -[which now can be done by UAVs]

So rotary air crafts are WAY more important for modern combat scene and can't be excluded.

It is the 21st century but the war is not against a 21st century opponent

I think armed drones is much better option and we can provide 24/7 air support to Soldiers without worrying high costs of maintaining fighter jets ( I assume maintenance and fuel costs would be much lower in case of drones).

Name one modern Air Force which uses a dive bomber or dive bombing tactics

All i am worried about is cost. According to wikipedia (lets suppose its correct) a hellfire = $68000, JDAM=$70,000. In a low intensity conflict of Pakistan, this is too much. The diving solution could provide a better alternative

You dont have to use them against modern airforce. You have to use them in insurgency campaigns. Ever heard of Embrar Super tucano? although its not a dive bomber

BTW are you just advocating the Stuka or other Dive Bombers like Dauntless or the Helldiver will do to ? :azn:

Stuka. Because it was able to dive at 90 degrees providing the accuracy that any historian will agree to.

The diving solution could provide a better alternative

By diving to a low altitude where the plane and the crew have a very good chance of being hit by small arms fire is good solution rather using drones or using guided weapons from conventional attack aircraft ?

never heard of an aircraft shot down at 1500 ft with a ak47 bullet

Yes I have like I have heard of its competitors like the T-6 Texan II, PC-7/9

I too would like to use these planes in COIN operations but with missiles and bombs BUT certainly not dive bombing.

than you won't get the accuracy or won't get enough missiles (cost) ;)
