What's new

Stop criticizing India for being poor: We are too.

There are poverty **** junkies here, but at the end of the day India is poor.

Poverty is not a thing which should be made fun of.Only a inhuman person who has no respect for humanity in whatever form it comes and who has no values in his life can only pass such cheap comments.

But i dont get offended coz i know we are not very far away from a day where our poverty levels would become very low and those who bark will find a new way to take a dig at us.

I've seen many Pakistanis here who often like to respond to India's insults with their own insults saying "India is a poor country, people there live in immense poverty". The fact is, we are equally just as poor. Our region, South Asia, is the poorest region in the world with a recorded 800,000 Million people living in poverty: You will not find this anywhere else, leave aside Sub-Saharan Africa.

Pakistan, Afghanistan, India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, the Maldives comprise of MOST of the poorest people in the world in one region.

So, the point I want to get across is, please, stop using the poverty insult - it is not only embarrassing, it is humiliating.

We need to grow up. We need to help those in need in our country to get out of poverty.

We were doing so well when we were created in 1947, At the time of partition and independence in 1947, Pakistan inherited the most backward parts of South Asia with only one university, one Textile Mill and one Jute Factory. The country has made tremendous progress and its per Capita GNP remains the highest in South Asia. During the last decade poverty elimination programs helped many of the poor to participate and rise up. However the Global financial crisis and other factors like the occupation of Afghanistan have impacted Pakistani growth. Poverty in Pakistan has historically been higher in rural areas and lower in the cities. Out of the total 40 million living below the poverty line, 30 million live in rural areas. Poverty rose sharply in the rural areas in the 1990s and the gap in income between urban and rural areas of the country became more significant. This trend has been attributed to a disproportionate impact of economic events in the rural and urban areas. Punjab also has significan gradients in poverty among the different regions of the province.

Hopefully, I got my point out across to those who I wanted.

Actually, When partition happened in 47, Indians did not give us the money owed to us. I mean the money from our agriculture etc that Indians benefited and made money out of was never given to us.

In fact, 'Hindus used to laugh at us saying that Pakistan will not last for more than 4 days.' If you look at us now in time span of 65 years, we have become a Nuclear power, Nobel piece prize winner, Youngest Mathematicians, Youngest Microsoft certifiers, Best poets in the region, and having a literacy rate of more than 50%. This is a big achievement coming from a country people used to laugh at.

I think little things need to happen to get us back on track. First we need to end landlords, corruption, and build more schools.

this is past. come to present bachaaaaa. india is second fastest growing economy.

Says the guy who claimed "Pakistan hasn't seen a particle of development". Just go troll somewhere else, thank you very much.

EDIT: India was the 13th fastest growing economy at the end of last year, not the 2nd, welcome to the real truth.

Most Indians don't realize that in terms of economic parameters India is only slightly above Pakistan and even that's only in the last decade. Up until 1999-2000 Pakistan was ahead of India in per capita income. However if one compares with the rest of the world both countries are dirt poor. Pakistan is still ahead of India in infrastructure as well. It's almost a surreal enjoyment watching my fellow Indians arrogantly advising Pakistan on economic matters. Ignorance is a bliss indeed.

During the first two decades after 47, particularly in the Ayub Khan era Pakistan made rapid economic progress, comparable to South Korea. In contrast, India, with its centrally planned (choked) economy became a textbook example of economic stagnancy. Agreed, West Pakistan's progress was partially based on East Pakistan's revenue, but I don't have a doubt that if Pakistan continued Ayub era policies it could very well be the South Korea of South Asia. What derailed Pakistan was the policies taken during the Bhutto administration. Like Nehru, he was also taught in the fashionable school of socialism of that time and adopted policies that blocked Pakistan's economy.

Did you know India used to be the sinking ship of Asia during the 20th century, and Pakistan the bright star?

Check this out:

Being cocky will not bring you anywhere, in fact it just goes to show you your own ignorance.

Don't worry bhai,
we have beaten Indian economy for more than 40 years... and lol we were bankrupt in 47.
Let Indians enjoy their boom for now. Just watch when we come out of war on terror and when Imran Khan's government comes in power.

Thank you for that reasoned and well thought out post
If we have more posts like this, this forum would be a much nicer place

Education is the one of the few fields where India is quite a bit ahead of Pakistan. Both in spread and quality. There are a whole lot of other things on which economic growth is measured. The most important is the rate of poverty. A 2005 report of World Bank records 22% people of Pakistan as poor. By contrast the number for India is a staggering 37%. It may have come down in a bit in both countries by now, but it should give you some perspective.

Your logic about numbers is also ridiculous. India has 1.2 Billion people to educate, true. But it also has a proportionally large amount of manpower to impose education tax and recruit teachers. What's your point? And if I go into the mineral resources we have, India should have been a far reacher country than Pakistan. Pakistan has little coal, Iron and Fuel reserves. The fact that they are still very close to us(and for a time ahead of us) is a proof how solid their economic policies for last 6 decades have been when compared to us.

Pakistan's current economic turmoil is due to one reason. The ongoing war in Afghanistan. One might argue that Pakistan itself is somewhat responsible for it but it's only a temporary phenomenon.

dude can u see sk and japan. they neither have coal and any natural resources and they were completely destroyed in 1950 behind both india and pak. what ur saying makes no sence. pakistan should have been developed by now if they invested properly. the cutting of 50% education budget in 2012 is a big example how progressive this country. i mean who the phuck cuts education budget in 21st century? they r simply not progressing and by doing that they have accepted it they cant.

smaller countries always have a chance to develop faster if they use their brains in the beginning. sk copied paks city design loll can u believe that? look where they r now.

Errr...that is not true..Pakistan doesn;t have the highest GNP in South Asia .

As for the argument that Pakistan inherited the most backward parts of South Asia, pure humbug. The economies of both Pakistan and India were predominantly agrarian and Pakistan inherited the highly developed, vast network of canals and the most fertile lands of all South Asia.

We are not comparing Sk and Japan, we are comparing India and Pakistan.
India had many more advantages then Pakistan, like population, mineral resources, etc etc yet despite all that we are both pretty close to each other in development.
At times Pakistan is a little ahead and other times India is a little ahead. But on the whole we are very similar.

So kindly stop trolling and look at the big picture.
