Karachi: Pakistan is going to obtain four F-22P Frigates to be built in Pakistan in collaboration with China as part of country’s efforts to strengthen its navy.

Recently Pakistan was has got three frigate from China while fourth is being built. Previously, China also handed over four frigates to Pakistan.

According to a report, published in Daily Jang, the leading Urdu daily of the country, Pakistan was happy over getting the fighters at low price and got booked orders for four new ships.

The report said that the Chinese frigate costs 200 million dollar while the US LCS ship having similar qualities and technologies costs 600 million dollars.

According to the report, the F-22P Frigate is laced with modern missile technology. The first ship, PNS Zulfiquar, was handed over to the PN on 30 July 2009 and the second, PNS Shamsheer, on January 23, 2010. The third is undergoing sea trials, The Fourth and Last Frigate of F-22P series for the PN was launched on 17 June 2011.

The tonnage is too low at 3000 tons.Its a light frigate.If they increase tonnage to about 4000 tons they can equip with more sensors,radars and consequently more effective SAM systems.Yes hq-16 which is basically the chinese variant of the shtil/buk-m1 air defence complex would be a potent system.

Or you could put in something like South Africa's Umkhonto (SAHV-3) Mk2 missile: VL, IIRH, LOAL-capable (fire and forget > no need for missile directors, just a 3D radar, which is nice on a relatively small ship like F22P), 15km range. With a 25km ARH-version forthcoming .... cooperation on this with Brazil (from which Pakistan bought ARMs for PAF) ... so who knows, they might like another partner.

Landbased SAHV-3 replaced Crotales in SAF service.

I am hopeful that these new deal will include content that are present of the Type54 like VLS SAM and may be VLS AShMs along with more use of Composites, stealth charateristics and other features that will make it more lethal. I think Pakistan should go for 7 of these like building these till 2018, along with five more FACs.

Pakistan should get more Frigates I mean more than these 8 Frigates Pakistan should have at least 16 if economy becomes better than they should increase the number to 22 or 24

I think PN should have a fleet of 15 F-22Ps till 2020 along with 11 Corvettes of 1500 Class that will be multi mission ones along with 21 FACs( 7 of the current type and later 7-7 of the upgraded types).

we are being defaulted on elecctricity bills for IPPs and you want a navy that would rank top 5 ..if thats the force you want..!
i think 8-10 frigates will be more than enough along with 6-8 subs ..

we should focus more on Subs and FAC

So i guess the OHP acquisition has hit the story waters. Lol, what are we gonna do with just one OHP?

Tariq's are gonna retire and 8 F22Ps gonna take over. I guess the delivery will be pretty soon.....another 3 years and 4 four ships!!

Who else thinks this news by Jang group might be a recycle of the old news ?

If the second batch was signed, then we would have known by now. I think they postponed it, considering OHPs from USA. But now the relations are much different that in 2009, so we might go ahead with 4 more F-22Ps.

What surprises me most that none other sources are reporting this news ...

Really , if we have decided to go for 4 more F22P , that certainly is a big news ...

Those ships are very capable and more than enough to suit our current needs and threat scenario ...
