No state has filed any such petition.

There are several requests created at the White House website by individuals, which, if signed by 25,000 people, can be elevated to the level of a formal petition:

Attempts at secession from the United States have been a feature of US politics ever since the country became independent. The most serious of these was of course the American Civil War, in which eleven southern states declared their secession from the United States and joined together as the Confederate States of America.

USA took care of that one, as it will if anything like that is attempted again.

What is your point about California and New Mexico? We can make another thread instead of taking this one off-topic, if you wish to talk about those states.

Why don't you actually back up that 'states' are putting pressure on the US Gov. for secession instead of mindless trolling?

In what way shape or form have you gotten the ridiculous idea that these people are becoming a majority? These aren't the first people who have supported secessionist movements since after the cold war, and like all the rest they hold an extreme minority view on the best solution for whatever perceived problem.

Put up or shut up. You obviously have nothing but bad journalism.

Declaration of Independence for Beginners

Before the Constitution, there was the Declaration of Independence. This document basically tells Great Britain to take a hike - we did not want a tyrannical dictator anymore. In the Declaration of Independence, listed are all the horrid things that King George III had done to his own people (remember, at that time America was a British colony). It is very interesting to note here, that most of the crimes King George III was committing against his people are identical to what our government is doing to us today.

Well, we got fed-up and decided that we no longer wanted to be ruled by King George III or Great Britain; we declared to the world that we were our own country of our own people, and we will run our country our way. Thus, America was born, and after winning the war of our Revolution, the Constitution was written.

the militia for beginners

these militants are there in america and they may not want Obama to rule them anymore

Damn! Just imagine a nuclear civil war in USA.......... would be awesome.
P.S don't start bitching about my country.

U.S. Constitution - Article 1 Section 10
Article 1 - The Legislative Branch
Section 10 - Powers Prohibited of States

<<Back | Table of Contents | Next>>

No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation
; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.

No State shall, without the Consent of the Congress, lay any Imposts or Duties on Imports or Exports, except what may be absolutely necessary for executing it's inspection Laws: and the net Produce of all Duties and Imposts, laid by any State on Imports or Exports, shall be for the Use of the Treasury of the United States; and all such Laws shall be subject to the Revision and Controul of the Congress.

No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not admit of delay.

In the Civil war southern states formed a Confederation, now I'm not sure if that was technically legal at the time as there are debates about that. Though it appears if a State officially secedes it would be entering into a "Treaty" of sort for independence, though the Civil War set a political precedent for which secession wasn't allowed.

Although if any State and it's Governor were to declare secession (and that state's national guard) that state would have to have enough military power to defeat the armed forces of the United States in order to successfully achieve independence. Only way this is possible if several state's and Governors decided to form a bloc, let's say hypothetically, Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Nevada, and the typical southern states joined forces then maybe they could successfully achieve independence on their own.

Although unlikely as the main economic power of this nation lies in the NE (my opinion), not to say California and Texas aren't powers in their own right but NE is simply wealthier, more populace, more developed cities, etc.

Even a state like Alaska wouldn't have a good chance of seceding on it's own, over a thousand miles far and distance from the US mainland wouldn't save it in this scenario, as the USAF and Navy will be there to secure it.
