What's new

new aircraft carrier to make russia powerfull

are you joking or serious? 7AC? do you know the upkeep cost and how expensive that is for a 1.8 trillion economy?

USA has 11 AC and their military budget is 700 billion .

India won't stay a 1.8 trillion economy forever.

IN does want 6-7 carriers and upto 20-25 LPD/LHDs to project power over all of Indian Ocean and
reach out to other oceans thereafter.

And hundreds of aircraft just for the AC and many ships to protect them. You need at least 200 Billion defence budget for this.

200 billion? Very much possible by 2020-2025. Just look at the aircraft acquisition programmes
of IAF, tanks + infrastructure projects of IA, and warships + submarines of IN.

IN is going to induct ~100 new warships by 2017 itself.

Each year our defence spending shows double-digit percentage growth since last year - 2012 spending
was 17% higher than 2011's. This will grow to 20+% increase every year as our economy becomes
more and more larger and robust.

What would India economy be in 2025, be realistic?

So its quite possible that the current Russian carrier will be given off to INAF by 2020 with upgrades.

What makes you think we will buy Kuznetsov when we've already bought Gorky and with Vikrant II on its way?

Well if you're talking bout that period of time then certainly we'd be 3.5+ trillion dollar economy so I don't think that amount of defence budget should be a problem if it is needed.

However a modest $70-90 billion can easily be expected if not 200 billion which is a little too much for a country like ours.

You forget that the more self-reliant we get, the better we get because we are improving further in efficiency and have better cost control than western companies.

It is a slow process but we've to work towards it.

2.5 would be very low in 13 years I expect atleast 3.5 trillion at worst.

I was being conservative though - in 2002, our nominal GDP was 510 billion (0.5 trillion),

10 years later, it was 1.8+ trillion (close to 2 trillion). Official IMF estimate puts India's
nominal GDP at 3+ trillion by 2017 itself, given current level of growth.

So by 2025, it could acctually be 4.5 or 5+ trillion.

Enough to afford as many as 7 CBGs.

5 trillion would not be enough to afford 7 CBGs. 3-4 would be a more realistic number.

But I do agree that by around 2040 India will have around 7 or so CBGs as it would have the money to be able to afford them by them and would even be able to construct 100,000 tonne CVNs in the 2030s domestically if it wanted to.

There is no talk about India getting current Russian AC, don't know if that's feasible.

As far as US AC is concerned, US in no way will give such a massive ship to India, even if it does, there will be TOO MUCH strings attached to it.

Besides, It has been said time & again that Viki will be the last foreign AC purchased by IN.

For short term IN needs 3 AC so that 2 remains operational at any given time, besides cost of operating a CBG is huge. For mid to long term IN has plans for 6-7 CBGs.

I am sure that if Russian speed up the proccess then IN will going to place an order for this one as well. I am sure then Russian will try to supply them Su-33MKI(dual seat version of Su-33)!!! Now no one will admire such coments but soon they will........

Where did you read IN wants 6-7 CBGs? 20-25 LPD?

Maybe if the Russians want to retire the present carrier, IN can think about it, but there is big MAYBE.

As far as su-33 is concerned, i highly doubt it since IN already has mig-29ks in it's inventory + it is going for NLCA + it will go for it's own MMRCA in some years with Rafale-M having high probability of induction, so why will IN go for another kind of ac & make a logistics nightmare for itself, besides the era is of 4.5/5th gen in the future, why again go for 4+ gen ac??
