The white people treat India as a country to use for their imperial agenda. They know India is weak and meek with no leverage over anyone. When the whites want to get something out of India, they will cooperate with India. But if the white country's interests are stepped on, they will just swat aside India like a fly. India is a disposable country. That's why the west never talk about India the same way they do about us. They treat us as a major rival to their power that don't take their orders. That's why we are hated because we don't kow tow to anyone and we call a spade a spade. The Indians love getting the approval of the white man, it's in their culture. The west sees this and massages the ego of the servant just enough to keep them happy and when the servant wants some rights, the master just slaps him down. This is how the west treats India. The funny thing is the Indians crave for the approval and popularity of India by the west, it's a badge of honour for these guys.
Chinese don't go around seeking the approval of others, if our interests are stepped on, we deal with them ruthlessly. It doesn't matter the country, race, religion, friend/enemy, rich/poor. Indians are very timid people, just compare how we kicked out the colonialists and how India kicked out the colonialists. Mao was ruthless towards the west, showed no compromise and kicked those bastards out of China, whereas Mahatma Gandhi begged for independence from the British.
India like to boast about how tough they are telling others to 'bring it on', but when the opponent gives them a punch between the eyes, India is the first country to back down. It happened when Nehru was sabre rattling in 1962, it happened with Italy now and many other instances. India is just a rug the west uses to scrape the crap from the boots. Always have been, always will be.
