Istanbul plans to build what it said would be the biggest airport in the world, eventually able to handle 150 million passengers per year, in a project seen costing more than 7 billion euros ($9.3 billion).
The six-runway airport will be constructed on 77 million square metres of land near Istanbul, and will have a capacity of 150 million passengers a year – 60 million more than Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, currently the busiest in the world.
The airport will be built in four stages. The first will be completed in 2017, after which it will be operational with an annual capacity of 90 million, according to Turkey’s transport minister, Binali Yildirim.
Istanbul currently has two airports, Sabiha Gokcen, which is located on the Asian side of Istanbul, currently serving around 15 million passengers a year and Ataturk, which is located on the south side of the city, and which serves around 45 million.
Istanbul is an official candidate for the 2020 Olympic Games and is implementing an “Integrated Urban Transport Master Plan” in preparation for a successful bid. The new airport plans would help boost the country’s bid for the 2020 Olympics
The airport will add vital capacity in the region and enhance the role of Istanbul, the hub for flag carrier Turkish Airlines.
Several other big construction projects are planned for Istanbul, including a high-speed train to Ankara, a third bridge over the Bosphorus, and a redesign of Taksim Square.

Istanbul to build world

Lol what made the Turks go so crazy suddenly????? :taz:

I think they are talking about a phased manner in which this huge airport will be built.

We build airports all over the world, why give it to you:azn:

coz we need money and we might be able to do it in a more cost effective way. :)
BTW what do you think about Sabiha Gökçen International Airport, an Indian company was involved in upgrading it.

Most probably, contract will be given as "Build-Operate-Transfer". I don't think Turkey will pay a dime for this project.

Just out of my own curiosity... which Airports did you guys build/help build?
Cheers!!

I, myself personally worked in the project phase of the "Balıkesir Airport". I can say it will be technologically more modern than both "Esenboga and Atatürk" airports.

Turkey is the second largest global constructor..... :smokin:

On topic : Turkey is going the right way! May Allah keep blessing her with success!

My Question still stands mate..
Which airports did Turkey built/helped build ?

Istanbul should get the right to host the 2020 Olympic Games, Olympic have been hosted at Europe, East Asia, North America, Australia, but never at Central Asia, Africa, Latin America, and I don't think Africa, Latin America have the ability to host one summer Olympic and there are winter when host the summer Olympic, Turkey is a place that every part can accept

I dont know all Turkish built airports around the world but the most famous airport builder/operator in Turkiye is TAV TAV Airports Holding - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

TAV built airports from wiki:

Adnan Menderes Airport
Atatürk International Airport
Batumi International Airport

Enfidha – Hammamet International Airport

Yes i believe it was a consortium of the GMR group with MAHB(Malaysia).
The best bid wins and it looks good so all satisfied.

Ur company built 4 `international` airports... 2 in Georgia .. 1 in macedonia and 1 in Latvia. That does not mean U built airports All around the World , does it? I have been to airport in Latvia , the Riga international.. and believe me when I say this.. the Bus stand in my small local town in Punjab is bigger than the Riga International U built.. no offence but pls dont make statements just for the sake of making them.
Unless ofcourse U did help build some International standard airport!!
