First P-8I Lands At Home Base Arakkonam Today

If the bears have any life left in them, they can be used purely as brahmos cruise missile platform

+ I had heard a few months back from a freind who attended a certain seminar and was present during an IN presentation, that the IN has plans to have atleast 2 LR-MPAs (P-8I) and 2-3 MR-MPAs operating out of A&N on a rotational basis (serving for a few months and then being replaced by other air frames and crew). So that at least 1 LR-MPA and 2 MR-MPA are ready to patrol or are on patrol out of A&N at any one time.

I don't know if the follow-on 4 P-8Is or the future orders will be given this assignment.

Thats interesting to hear. What is important here is the fact that IN has to evolve newer strategies as new scenario develops in IOR and although 12-15 P8I may look sufficient now, IN obviously is setting its sight on future. If we really want to extend our reach in IOR for whatever roles, there could be a projected requirement of upto 30-40 aircrafts of various mixes while taking attrition into account.

And maybe even Nirbhay missiles.

Bears should be retired now. Their maintenance costs a lot and will keep increasing.

That's out of question since the last upgrade, because it turned out to be too expensive and with IAF placing MKIs around the coasts now, they will take over this role in a more cost-effective way.

that does sound like a good idea.... As I said "if they have any life left in them"

I read long time back that 2 Su 30 MKI is sent to Russia for body redesign to hold Brahmos, any news on that?

Hope to see one, I travel on that road at least twice a week. :)

Tell me what you ride i will flag you down someday :cheesy:

ding ding i will be able to see these birds up close now on navy day hopefully :D.

any news that what will happen to bear fleet? will they be transformed in to Cruise Missile Carrier? or they will be pahsed out?

Personally I think TU-142 planes should be turned in to CMCs for carrying Brahmos light, Nirbhay and Nirbhay 2(speculated)

No one knows whats gonna happen to them. Indian Navy should retire these aircraft's. Airplanes contain many toxic materials and it should be handed back to the manufacturer for dismantling and recycling .

The integration of Brahmos is part of the next upgrade, but neither are the test done, nor the upgrade fixed yet.
