SHOCKING: 12 commit suicides in Narendra Modi's Gujarat every day!
DNA | Oct 05, 2013, 10:39AM IST

Ahmedabad: A staggering 13,655 suicides were reported in Gujarat in three years — an average of 12 every single day — figures tabled by the Narendra Modi government in the legislative assembly show.

In fact, the number of total suicides is even higher as data of several places falling under the jurisdiction of police commissionerates was not revealed by the government.

The information shows that Ahmedabad rural registered 503 suicides from May 2010 to April 2013. However, the number was sharply lower compared to Rajkot rural and Jamnagar, which recorded as many as 1,200 suicides each in the same period.

In fact, other districts in Saurashtra region also registered a very high number of suicide cases. Junagadh accounted for 1,118 suicides in the three-year period, whereas Bhavnagar registered 1,097 suicide cases. Surendranagar district recorded 529 instances of suicides, followed by 432 and 377 cases in Amreli and Porbandar, respectively.

The government said in a written reply in the assembly that the 1090 helpline has been launched to dissuade those contemplating suicide from taking the extreme step. It said that counseling is provided by police and NGOs to stop possible suicides.

The state capital Gandhinagar registered 375 cases in the same period. Among other places, Surat rural accounted for 1,046 suicide cases in the above mentioned period. Vadodara rural registered 760 suicides, Valsad 606 cases, Bharuch 658, while Kutch registered 534 suicides. Kheda and Anand in central Gujarat registered 246 and 351 suicide cases respectively.

The data shows high number of suicide cases even in tribal dominated places. Sabarkantha registered 597 suicides, Godhra 456, Banaskantha 430, Narmada 270, Navsari 244 and Dahod 192.
Mehsana and Patan in north Gujarat recorded 268 and 166 suicides respectively.

“Directions have been issued to give top priority to this issue in various seminars and awareness programmes organised as part of Surakha Setu project,” the government added in the assembly.

Another article from the anti-Modi propaganda campaign.

12 suicide related deaths a day, is 4380 every year. In a state the size of Gujarat with 60M population that is peanuts.

In comparison, the UK suffered 6,045 deaths due to suicide in 2011. A country which has a population that is approximately the same as Gujarat.

Erm....suicides can be stopped, not prevented. There are a lot of people with zillions of reasons from depression to personal problems to financial woes.

What are you saying?

1. As for ribbons you must have heard the reply also, it says the ribbon cutting happens after the completion of projects and in Delhi projects do completes.

2. No argument can deny that Delhi have best transport network in whole of India.

- South Asia's best airport, best metro, best bus network.

- 24 hrs of electricity.

- One of the most greenest metropolitan city.

3.) As for the crime Delhi Police does not comes under her administration and Delhi is central hub people and vehicles from dozen of states be it kashmir, punjab, haryana, rajastah, UP, MP, Bihar, HP travels in and out of Delhi. And Delhi shares vast border with UP and Haryana.

4.) As for rapes that's all hyped up because all the news channels and newspapers have their head office in Delhi.

As for the National crime records India's rape capital is Madhya Pradesh a BJP ruled state not Delhi. And not to forget that Delhi Police does not comes under Delhi Govt.

Shiva Sena took a dig at its old ally Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), saying the saffron party was clueless about the views of its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi.

An editorial in Shiva Sena mouthpiece Saamna, which are the views of its president Uddhav Thackeray, made Modi’s toilets-first-temples-later remark a target of its scathing criticism.

Addressing a college students’ gathering, Modi had remarked that he would prefer to provide sanitation to millions of people than build temples, which many read as a deviation from his hardline Hindutva line.

The editorial said Modi’s remark shows that he is laying the agenda and “the party is running behind trying to catch up with him”.

“The government should now appoint Modi as the brand ambassador of the toilet project and pay the BJP for publicity,” the editorial said.

The piece expressed surprise at why Congress criticised Modi for his remarks, as rural development minister Jairam Ramesh had said pretty much the same thing in 2012.

“He (Modi) has said Jai Jairam instead of Jai Shriram, which has confused the BJP and it does not know what stance he will take next,” he said.

On Modi’s elevation as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, Thackeray had said last month that his party hoped Modi will not dilute his hardline Hindutva.

However, in the Saamna piece, Thackeray said “it seems the UPA and the BJP have swapped ideologies”.

“From the time Modi has put forward this thought, the Congress leaders, right from Digvijaya Singh, have become Hindutva supporters…. Earlier, when Ramesh expressed his views, BJP, VHP and the Sangh Parivar criticised him. Now, BJP leaders are defending Modi,

Both Modi and Ramesh should also talk of the illegal mosques and Madarsas and replace them with schools and public toilets,” the editorial said.
