Al Jazeera Journalists held in Egypt given jail sentence of approximately one decade!!!!

Here's the full story: http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jun/23/al-jazeera-journalists-jailed-seven-years-egypt

Egypt has truly become a failed banana republic with despotic regime in power..and lawlessness everywhere.

What a pathetic state. No better than neighboring sub-saharan African lands...

Egypt is yet another prime-example of the 'tolerance' of the "liberal seculars" of Muslim World. A party with "Muslim" name wins the election fair and square....and all hell break lose. All the principles of 'tolerance' evaporates in thin air. MB government toppled illegally by army and supported by seculars. Severe and unjust persecution and killings of MB members, supporters, their wives, and even their children. "Liberal Seculars" cheer along. Journalists sent to prisons because they reported the horrific crimes of the despotic regime..Liberals be like :yahoo:.........

Pathetically pathetic.

This has happened in Algeria, Tunisia, and many other countries too. Such behavior is what turns away Muslim masses from so-called 'democracy'....because Muslims never feel the 'real' democracy..and their experience of these fake-democracies turn them off to the concept of democracy.

Note: Real liberals are enlightened people with vision and capacity like none others (Thomas Jefferson, John Locke, and the likes from Europe). Even Prophet Muhammad (SAW) was a 'liberal' revolutionary who challenged the conservative, already-established tribal ways of its time..and took them head-on...and transformed arab society by introducing a progressive religion of Islam (Progressive w.r.t 7th century Arabia).

This isn't a liberal-bashing thread, I myself am a liberal-leaning centrist.

This thread is to expose the hypocrisy of fake liberal/seculars that nothing but pure scum to many of our lands...

Lmaoo well I hold a low opinion of Egyptian governments anyway so this does not surprise me.

Egypt is yet another prime-example of the 'tolerance' of the "liberal seculars" of Muslim World.

The Egyptian government can be defined as a relatively secular illiberal dictatorship and nothing more. A true liberal government would never conduct itself this way.

They're doing this due to foreign support from Saudi Arabia and a coupe other gulf nations. Basically, they're doing everything to eliminate infrastructure of the MB in Egypt. Through this process they try sending a message to the public, whether it be an ordinary civilian or journalist. You can't have objections against their new policy, bottom-line.

What's striking to me is the level of hatred against the movement and its supporters. They did nothing to deserve such treatment. If anything they're more rational and educated than the corrupt military brass which has served Egypt for decades. The MB made the wrong decision to enter politics early on, they should've waited till the next elections IMO.

This will open the road for extremism though, once you suppress moderate Islamic movements it will give way for extremist movements. The problem is Western/Arab policy in the Middle East have zero tolerance to moderate Islamic movements since they threaten the regimes at home. While also give an opportunity for those movements to nationalize their interests making it difficult to acquire resources at ease.

The sad part is they've tolerated extremism for a while now since they're still able to secure their interests. Lately, we will see how this will 'blowback' and cause something unexpected.

The Egyptian Ekhwan e Muslimeen still have $10bil that's yet to be accounted for, courtesy of the Qatari government. That as well as their showing at the polls are enough to buy an army. I punt that a civil war awaits Egypt.

Nobody wants a civil war and don't think of the movement as something Muslims struggle for or something inspired by God. We can only think that way as a whole, there is something wrong with our people as a whole. Which is starting to give me doubts, I can't fathom how horrible we've become on the religious level. Meaning our religious approach plus image is miserable since religious people also don't understand their priorities. At the same time, liberals don't respect basic human rights in our nations let alone pay attention to the ideological aspirations amongst their people.

We are literally doomed, it's time to work from the ground up. Because what exists is a complete failure. I've tried getting religious guidance on these affairs but nothing can represent this situation, nobody can explain it or how it's going to change.

...you bet. The American strategy in my view, has always been to force us to look into the mirror and see what they see. On a brighter note, this can be the dawn of a true Muslim enlightenment.

I believe in a God though, also in Islam. However, something is wrong with the order of events. If God is really going to change our situation around I haven't seen signs of it.

You'd better reach for your Quran again, as there's nothing in there about God doing anything for us, we do it. God - by way of his natural order - essentially has the final say on what we earn in response to our actions. Good deeds will earn in like, just as evil deeds will earn in like. Most Muslims have an awkward view of a God that essentially babysits us, hence the laziness that inflicts so many among us. I mean, why do anything at all if God does it for us, right? No.....WE are masters of our actions, while God is Master of the consequences of those actions. Free will is absolutely enshrined in the noble Quran, so don't let anybody tell you any differently.

The current regime in Egypt is propped up by gulf petrodollars. Why can't Qatar influence the Egyptian Govt to release the Al Jazeera (with HQ in Qatar) journalists.

Egyptian liberals who toppled Morsi's ELECTED government fully support the army's dictatorship and even defend it.

Qatar is seen as the bad guy by Egypt and liberal Egyptians cuz they supported MB's elected government.

Saudis/UAE are the main 'slave-owners' of Egyptians.

This confirms my suspicion that this verdict is more of a notice to Qatar not to indulge in the internal affairs of Egypt or their neighboring Gulf states.

Wrong.

It was that democratically elected government that deserved everything that it earned for itself. What Afghans, Pakistanis and all the rest of the Muslim world need to understand is that the only workable Democracy on the planet is a Liberal Democracy, buoyed by a constitution that upholds the basic rights of ALL citizens, no matter who wins an election.

Mohamed Morsi was a stupid man, as are his perverted Islamist comrades that have shown over the years to have zero respect or tolerance for those within their rights to opposed them. To these buffoons, Democracy is only respected by way of the vote to launch them to power, hence their immediate alienation of the same Egyptian Liberals who naively stood alongside them to ouster the Mubarak government.

Here are some of the reasons for his overthrow:

- Instead of staying focused on improving the lives of the Egyptian people, he thumbed his Islamist nose at issues outside of their borders, such as his stance against the Syrian government that raised the immediate ire of the Egyptian military. In doing so, he revealed his bias towards the interests of the International Islamists over the interests of his own nation hat voted for him.

- He gave himself a constitutional declaration that granted him exclusive rights to appoint the public prosecutor who was to make all his decisions final and binding and unable to be appealed by any way or to any entity until the constitution was to be approved and a new People's Assembly elected. This caused a major public outcry that forced him to retract it, even if it did sow the seeds of mistrust.

- His ruling party used the majority of their members and allies in the constitutional committee to pass a hotly disputed constitution that served THEM rather than all Egyptians. Even approved by 64% of Egyptians who voted, it was noted only about 30% of Egyptians with voting rights participated in the referendum process, which caused secular and liberal party members and church representatives to withdraw from the committee.

- His introduction of sound economic reforms that however raised the ire of the military with its own vested economic interests (as is the case in Pakistan). The problem here was with his inability to work with the military, hence his unstatesman like manouverings. When you earn yourself the government of a country, you do not assume that all the planets are going to immediately align themselves to your whims. That is what distinguishes an adult from a child crying foul when he doesn't get his icecream.

For those who blame the Egyptian Liberals...sorry, but in the end, they found themselves forced to go with the lesser evil. All our people who fancy themselves Democrats, need to acquaint themselves with the follies of the Democratically elected Egyptian government first, before appreciating what is required from us.
