Can Pakistan successfully build Engines for Tanks and Jet Fighters?

Will you proudly buy and drive a Pakistan made car? No you won't. Then why complain

Building Engines is the last piece of the puzzle in Pakisan's Weapon Industry.

We can make everything else. But we have to import Engines from China and Ukraine which can be embargoed under Indian pressure.

So we need Independence in this regard. Not sure why this has never been a priority for Pakistan.

Look honey while we spend decades trying to get the hang of turbofan tec the world will probably be introducing some other sort of propulsion system.

@MastanKhan @gambit @Munir

Your veiws?
sweet heart you need to realize that we don't need to be dependent on other countries for our engines… if today russia and china stop giving us engines then who will you call daddy??

look at india.. they are developing their own engine to be self reliant… i would think islamists would want pakistan to be self sufficient but i guess not… you and zarvan both want to only import stuff…. i he said we should didn't develop our own assault rifles and guns while your saying we should develop our own engines….

excellent question !

Let's take a minute to think about it. and the implications.
implications of making our own engines?

Why is it that Pakistan can fully built a JF-17 or Al-Khalid Tank but always has to import engines from foreign countries such as China or Ukraine?

Why hasn't Pakistan invested in developing the technical know how to build and develop its own engines?

First of all, Pakistan doesn't build the Jf-17 and Al-Khalid tanks. It assembles them based of foreign imported kits, just like India assembles the Sukhois and many other Israeli weapons.

Secondly, Pakistan in 2014 neither has the ability nor the required market for such an engine. Pakistan has no domestic fighter jet program and hence no engine is needed to supplement that.

What Pakistan needs is to systematically, build up its military design capabilities. Pakistan needs integrated programs with private investment for this to happen.

Currently, your government is not willing to invest even a single dollar in domestic military industry. This is completely off the priority list of your government.

Then we'll be fucked up. As simple as that.

No they're not.

Comparing rifles to engines? real smart.

Then we'll be fucked up. As simple as that.
well then we should develop them right princess?

No they're not.
yes they are

i was comparing the mindset not engines and rifles.
well you said we don't need to make our own engines which means you don't want us to be self reliant did i miss something??

these are not kits…
pakistan has the technology to make these machines now… just not the engines… hence we need to make engines..
making these mean machines jointly is the first step to being able to completely design our own…

well then we should develop them right princess?

No we cannot because we don't have the money, the technology, and we will never be able to make engines comparable to the ones developed by the west.

Kaveri is a failed project.

we have to take the first step of making something… this type of mentality will keep us in the stone age…
so what if they will have something better in the west??

Hi,

It is easier to make alliances and partners than building an aircraft on a tank engine. Make inclusive policies not exclusive. Build relationships----that is the only way left.

Kaveri is a failed project.

most Pakistanis think so..but it is not.the fact is it couldn't produce desired thrust that was needed for LCA,i.e. over 90 KW,while Kaveri could produce 85KW.but think this way,we now have an engine of 85 KW which we've developed 1/7th cost of development what another county would do.plus, the engine performance is somewhat higher than F-404 in most sector.it was a parallel development, and atlast, it remained so.but there are multiple sectors where they're planning to use Kaveri's derivatives.so,not a failed project at all.
