Came across some snippets on the Republic Day parade.

Till 1954 , the Parade was conducted in the National Stadium. It wa in 1955 that the Parade was shifted to the Raj Path along the route it follows today.

The Chief Guest that year was from Pakistan

In 1955 Governor General Malik Ghulam Muhammed was invited as the guest of honour representing Pakistan in a move to develop friendlier relations between both nations.

Another one ..

In 1965 the Pak Food and Agriculture Minister Rana Abdul Hamid was the guest.

india and pakistan should help each other to eliminate poverty and increase human development in south asia rather than fight each other
Untill Pakistan lets go of the Kashmir issue, there can unfortunately never be any meaningful cooperation between the two countries. Its a shame because there is so much in common between the people of the two countries.

Why let go.Why not solve the problem first and look forward to mutual cooperation.Only then we can create a peaceful atmosphere for bringing the people of two countries together.

Wonder if these gestures have been reciprocated by Pakistan ever ?

i have heard that prior to 65 war,on ocassion indian soldier even came to lahore for parties or something related?

Things before 65 were normal so I think it might be true

In 1963, my grandfather who was a Brigadier in the Indian army, visited Karachi for two weeks. It wasn't on official business. Just a visit to some friends who lived there

Tragic, how things have changed.

That is certainly possible; though I do not know for sure. A family member of mine was very good friends with V/Adm. H.M.S.Chowdhary who was his contemporary and V/Adm. S.M.Ahsan who was a little junior to him and they met a few times. And he was able to visit HMIS Himalaya the gunnery school at Manora, that he had commanded in the past.

so 26 January to starting of August , approximately 6 six months.
I guess it take at least six months of planning and preparation for such operation, i leave it for think tanks here to decide. If we include Grand Slam as well than planning must have been started before January 1965. I am merely exploring the possibility of Rana Abdul Hamid knowing of the coming war :P.

I think the solution should come from Pakistan. Indian residents cannot migrate to J&K and the demography is maintained as before, except for mass Pandit exodus to be terrorists.

I hope Azad Kashmir also has the same criteria in which normal Pak citizens are not allowed to settle and live. If it is, then a Union can be formed, in which the J&K gets united , ruled by themselves, citizens of either countries free to travel to JK, and administration by JK citizens. Militarily status quo can be maintained.

However it will be good for the region if Pakistan Army does not take advantage of the situation and tries Operation Gibraltor in 1965 like operation or another 26/11 planned in Pak soil will derail the process.

Peace can be bought, by both of the nation.

Bro that is something that not going to happen. If they have same political situation like that 50s it would have been easy.
But at current scenario there is already a huge forceswithin Pakistan that is cashing on from this rivalry. They wont allow it.
So forget them .Concentrate on our prosperity.

I heard people used to fly from Karachi to Mumbai for watching movies and stars at that time. I read somewhere there were special arrangements made for watching Mughal-E-Azam movie. It was 65 and then 71 which ruined people to people relations.
