liberalism doesn't means hurting ones religious sentiments.religious tolerance doesn't means that also.he is still alive after drawing these .tat is the symbol of our tolerance

Wow.... people from a community who were ready to burn down the newspaper office and kill the reporter for creating cartoons of their religious figure....are questioning Indians for their religious tolerance.....

So making a cartoon of your religious figure in Not ok...but making nude paintings religious figures from other religions is ok.... Talking of hipocracy.

Good that he moved from here...he was anyways no good to society..just a tharki old buddha....salivating for painting every female body nude...

No one is advocating hurting feelings of any religion.

The nude paintings and sculptures in Hinduism is notthing new.

They had always been there.

I think we had debated this in details in the past too.

Anyway at the end its a loss of India not ours.

A country that has sheltered Taslima Nasreen because she insulted Islam but the same so-called Secular country doesnt have guts to protect own Citizen because he is a Muslim.

So much so for your respect to religious feelings.

Dear Indians the sentiments should be equal for all faiths. Not just for hindu faith

India's loss.....the guy has not done anything for the community....son he would have been lying in the hospital bed....living off money from India tax payers ...in the name of Charity.....

As for Taslima Nasreen....she still wants to go to Bangladesh...but no one wants her there...or may be she will be killed...as for this old man....he is expendable.....Most of Indians give a rats azz if he lives or dies ....just like I don't care for Taslima Nasreen...people don't care about this guy......they are just rats who survive on hype.....

devotional and artistic sculptors are different ,he is a man who try to malign them.don't forget india is the first country in the world to ban the book satanic verses by salman rushdie we respect all religious sentiments because ours is secular country.do the people of India protested in front of Qatar embassy ,or burned it of or their flags ..no.
let him live their peacefully thinking of dixit till hell calls him.

Well its actually a shame that we weren't able to provide him security. Even if what he did was wrong, he actually had right to stay in his country and the govt. should have protected that right.

The guy never had balls to stay in India ....he ran away like a rodent.....

Look at Sharukh Khan for example....he took a stand...and whole India lined up behind him and defeated hardliners.... he had balls to look inti their eyes and say I am an India and I have right to live my life the way I want....and whole country supported him.....and now he has earned respect of many......Because India knew he was right.....

But can you say that this about Mr. Runaway Hussain ...the great I want to paint every women nude man......

Let him go live wherever he wants and paint as many females from Quatar nude.....and then lets see if he survives that.

That is funny man...
I really did not want to comment here but your remark caught my eye...

On a serious note Shahrukh is like one of your most famous actors, he could be more emphatic because he has so many fanatical fans...this old man had no chance.
Not everyone has the assurance that people will go to the streets to support him.

Anyways, if this guy genuinely hurt religious sentiments against the law of the land then good riddance to him, if however he did something which was not unlawful then it is a point to ponder upon, especially since India is secular and should not tolerate religiously infused agitation against someone if it is outside the provisions of the Indian law.

Anyhow, carry on...

I donot much care of hypocricy, and many on this forum were fighting tooth and nail suporting likes of rushdie, Dutch minister incluidng the News paper in denmark priting concocted, insultive depictions of our Great Prophet P.B.U.H. willfully insulting Islam hiding behind the fasad of Freedom of expression.

When the tables are turned it is a differant story.

so u all who have even an iota of fairness in you stop doing those crazy things under the guise of freedom and expression, we know the real purpose of it.

What was wrong with his paintings? I have seen them, I personally I did not feel offended. Infact they were beautiful, celebrating the female form we revere as Goddesses!! Isnt that what Hinduism does, worship the female form as Goddess? Painting them in the nude was NOT derogatory or insulting, on the contrary, MF Hussein did what no present day prudish Hindu can, glorified the female form!!

And FYI, all those posters of Goddesses Laxmi and Saraswati we use daily in our rituals were conceptualized and painted by the renowned Raja Ravi Verma. What if he had painted them in the nude? Would there have been such uproar then?

This is hypocrisy!! This to all you prudes out there, including stupid RSS/VHP/BJP/BD supporters - overt and closet!

A country which brags about being the creator of Kamasutra, fails to celebrate the concept or the idea behind it. An overpopulated land of Kamasutra brings forth such hypocritical prudes. What a Shame!

Lets not go into whether he had the balls or not You are comparing a 95 year old man with a 40 year old superstar. All I am saying is that the govt. should have been more proactive in the matter and made sure that he felt safe.

See, in today's politically charged atmosphere such things are bound to happen. These paintings were done in 1970s . At that time no one really protested. Suddenly only 10 years ago why are everyone shouting?
I think this is such a overblown thing only because MFH is Muslim, if I had painted it ., being a hindu , i think no onw would have complained.
Its all the politics thats all.

Personally I dont have any strong opinion. But Gubbi I do want to respond to your post.

You found nothing wrong in it but it seems (just a guess) a large number of them feel offended. If he had drawn those paintings without any ill intention then the least he could do was to apologize and get the paintings removed. I guess being a great painter he can have other inspirations apart from hindu gods and godesses.

!

No idea what would be the reaction. But why wait for that to happen? And FYI the opposition is not because he is a muslim and painted hindu godesses in the nude.......remember the student in Gujarat who painted goddess Durga in nude...he was a hindu and there were opposition to him too.

!

Personally I have never seen any Indian "bragging" about it...
And finally my belief is that not everything that was done in the past was right (or for that matter wrong).
Just my thought
