Decline of Islamic Science

To those who say Muslims did not contribute in science.
Muslims were dumbasses in those days that is why places like Baghdad, Istanbul and Cordova sparkled while London and Paris were covered in mud and dirt. The former cities even had street lighting in those days. Muslims did not contribute to science in those days that is why Europeans learnt Arabic to study the scientific books written by Muslims. Muslims were fools, that is why they excelled in warfare and developed innovative tactics and conqured the formerely invincible regions.

Your statement shows your ignorance of Islam and the Holy Quran.

Please read the Holy Quran.

First, Islam is not limited a place or ethnicity or race; it's universal.

Second, the Holy Quran exhorts its readers/listeners to think, ponder, reason over and over again.

Afala Ta'qilun, Afala Yatadabbarun, Afala Tatafakkarun, Afala Tubsirun and similar verses appear over 700 times in the Holy Book of Muslims, far more often than exhortation to salat (prayer), zakat (charity) and saum (fasting).

Not trying to be a d!ck here. But since, you're talking about science and Qur'an. Doesn't Qur'an say that Earth is flat and sun and moon revolves vertically around earth hence their 'rise' and 'set'.

So please, don't mention religious scriptures when talking about science because that is very contradicting and ALL OF THEM are ridden with scientific inaccuracies.

Italy was a center of art and knowledge in the 15th-16th centuries. It doesn't get much closer to the Vatican than Italy.

Off course. Here is a "shiny" example from 16th century Vatican.

Please remember beginning in 1593, Bruno was tried for heresy by the Roman Inquisition on charges including denial of several core Catholic doctrines (including the Trinity, the divinity of Christ, the virginity of Mary, and Transubstantiation).

Yes! Ayatullahs, popes, and Mullahs could be very very similar when it comes to innovation.

To those who say Muslims did not contribute in science..

Muslims did.

islam as a religion did not. Because if it did, then Islamic religious centers like Makkah and Madina would not be intellecually dark regions for 100s if not 1000s of years.

Please do not mix two different things.

Thank you.

This topic was debated some time ago so lets not go there in this thread.

The conquest of Constantinople was nothing to bragg about. It was a shadow of its former self, defended by a handfull of men and reduced to mostly rubble by 2 centuries of continuous decay.

Our friend Daneshmand thinks otherwise. I was primely referning to him. You also implied similar things in your post ( questioning progresses made by Muslims ......not by Islam or Islamic ) . Because you think that Islam only means Mekka and Medina. Islam is a religion and unless you want to edit Quran , I don't know what you mean by Islamic progress. A progress made by a Muslim scientist in an Islamic caliphate is not Islamic according to you and you think Islamic progress is just the progress of Arabian region, like Islam was only meant for Arabians. Well that is your opinion. First you were also downplaying the role played by Muslim scientists btw keep that in mind.

You say that because your beloved Byzentines lost that war.

I say it because that's the way it was. You're free to proove otherwise and show me how great of a city Constantinople was in 1453 and how it was defended by legions of knights instead of a rag tag of Greeks and Genoese merchants.

Where does the Quran say that? Please quote chapter and verse.

Meanwhile, read this: Miracles of the Qur'an - Modern Science Reveals New Miracles of the Qur'an

meray bhai jaan

you are again mixing religion and science.

Same mistake as mixing ayatullah and Mullahs with scientists, while Mullahs have been issuing death fatwas since the very beginning.

meray bhai

you are trying to steal the credit from scientists and giving them to utterly bafoon Mullahs and Ayatullahs.

Please quit doing so, otherwise you too will become part of plagiarism.

Thank you.

Please do not mix Quran and Ayatullahs (Mullahs).

The two are like water and oil.

I am not mixing any thing and who knows mullahs of that time? We know about Muslim rulers of that time and we call their empires, caliphates or whatever as Islamic caliphates. We give credit to scientists and rulers(who were progressive) we do not even know the names of mullahs of that time. Now let me say that in other words " muslim scientists excelled in those days and Islamic caliphates were shining in those days". Is there anything incorrect about my sentence in inverted commas? Is the world Islamic caliphate incorrect? Look at your earlier posts as well in which you almost said that muslim scientists made almost no progress and now you have made a tactical retreat from your earlier claim.

Science is knowledge, gyan, ilm , etc.. , there is no islamic science or hindu science or christian science. If an apple drops towards earth, this will be accounted as it is, a Hindu won't see it rotating or a Muslim won't see it flying upwards, or christian won't see it static. But fools will debate, Allah did it, Bhagwan did it, God did it. Ignoring the essence of the Knowledge of the Phenomenon.

After Greeks again the Europe picked up where Greeks had left.

Inbetween there was a lull, a void and what we call dark ages because, Europe had stopped. Nothing of much value was added in this period. Whether by Muslims or by Chinese or Japanese or by Aztec or Inca or anyone else. Nothing that if they had not produced it, the world would have missed today.

Chinese inventions? They count for nothing? Coincidentally discovered during this "dark ages" which weren't so dark outside Europe.

The knowledge of the Greeks was preserved and built upon in Islamic world, with no question, the intelligentsia then ran (after fall of Baghdad) to Constantinople and from there, together with native Byzantians (after Ottoman conquest) to Italy where rich merchant city states readily financed it, laying the foundations for a rennaisance. Note how it came to an almost full circle.

Don't get me wrong, i also think Europeans are to take the most credit for today's world, but disregarding everyone like that leads nowhere.

Meray bhai jaaan

That's what we call height of innocence (on your part).

Every damned thing the Mullahs and Ayatullahs have been doing is well documented.

persecution of scientists in Baghdad and Busra? We know.

Total annihilation of innovation from Makkah and Madina? We know.

Munazaras of Mullahs on Quran Khaliq vs. Makhlooq? we know

Where have you been living my dear?

Where?

Bamxa bhai,

please no slight of hand. Ibn e Sina was not linked to Mu`tazila. There is a huge gap intellectual and geographical in this paragraph of yours.

This is why I say, please do a bit less of lapaita :-)

And where did I say he was :/? I was giving specific examples of individuals/movements of Muslims who/which used logic and rationality despite originating/coming from religious backgrounds. I specifically stated that the Abassiya patronized the Mu'tazila. No where did I say that Ibn e Sina was a Mu'tazilte so please dont put words in other people's mouths.

Oh bhai jaan

House of wisdom was active only for less than 50 years and was home to less than 5 scientists. Biggest of them all was Alkhawarizmi. But this poor chap was kicked out from there and he died in Afghanistan.

Please go beyond the basic propaganda for a little.

Thank you

Right so Al Khawarizmi, Al Farghani, Al Kindi, Hunayn ibn Ishaq, Three Banu Musa brothers, Al Battani, how many is it so far, oh yes 8. Cant be bothered to list more but you wouldnt expect a Think Thank to engage in such intellectual dishonesty.

Now don't get me wrong,i'm a Church going fellow but the furthest people who think that they speak for God stay away from state affairs and science, the better.I don't see it as Christian science or Islamic science,it was just humanity pushing into the unknown.Ussually, the hyper religious ones we're trying to stop scientific advancement, all over the globe.
