Will no longer seek Pakistan’s help in peace talks: Afghan president

oh well...there goes the strategic depth and empty boasts that Pakistan has ingratiated it self with Ghani Govt and kicked out Indian influence.

Honestly I don't mind Pakistan influence as long as it brings peace as peace is good for Indian investments and it plans for Chabahar, but so far it has only succeeded in double dealing and more violence and death. It took time but ultimately ghani too became wise to the fact that Pakistani words and actions can fit the whole pacific in the gap b/w them.

It is better to accept the reality and deal with issues on the basis of realistic expectation then be beguiled by piper as it leads you to your merry doom.

ISLAMABAD: In a major shift in his policy, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on Monday said Kabul will no longer seek Pakistan’s role in the ongoing peace talks with Taliban.

“Pakistan had promised to aid peace talks but we no longer expect Islamabad to bring Afghan Taliban to the negotiating table,” Ghani said while addressing a joint session of the Afghan parliament. The Afghan president’s rare address to the joint session was aired live on state and private TV channels.

Pakistan hopes to broker Taliban-Kabul talks this month

“We want Pakistan to honour its commitment and take military action against the Afghan Taliban. We want them to handover the Taliban to the Afghan government so we can try them in Sharia courts,” Ghani said.

Describing the Taliban as ‘ignorant’, the Afghan president said there is no difference between good terrorists and bad terrorists and that Pakistan should act as a responsible government. Ghani also labelled the Islamic State, Haqqani network and certain segments of the Taliban as ‘enemies’ of Afghanistan.

Ghani’s comments come as the relationship between the two neighbouring countries deteriorates once again following a deadly attack on Afghan security agency headquarters in Kabul on April 19.

Countries to negotiate for Afghan peace process in mid-January

An Afghan presidential spokesperson accused the Haqqani Network of planning the attack in Pakistan with help from foreign intelligence circles. Afghan Taliban had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Following the Taliban’s refusal to join the dialogue, President Ghani has been under pressure to change his policy on peace and reconciliation with the militant group.

Last month, the Taliban refused to sit face-to-face with the government in Kabul under the quadrilateral process of Afghanistan, Pakistan, China and the United States.

Taliban toughen stance on peace talks ahead of quadrilateral meeting

According to reports, China is working with Pakistan and the United States to broker peace talks to end a Taliban insurgency that has raged for 15 years in Afghanistan.
These clowns want us to both fight the Taliban and at the same time bring them to peace negotiations, I say a bunch of oxymorons are running the Afghan government.

These Afghanis must be marked in the history as the Nation which loved to stab itself again and again. It was a favour we were doing for them. If they dont want it, then we dont want to provide it. More afghanis will continue to perish just because the current leadership could not decipher who the real enemies are.

:yahoo: this is the political definition of a tight slap . Afghanistan should also sue for war crimes after they get their economy up . Pakistans hegemony in Afghanistan internal politics & underground Nexus will eventually die .

Do you know the last attack was at NDS office. I dont know who was sending the message but certainly Afghan Taliban got NDS in their cross hair now. They are getting more powerfull with each passing day. And with it means less power to Kabul regime and with it goes the Indian influence.

Rest assured, no fu** was given in Pakistan. We understand the ground realities in Afghanistan and our interests will remain intact for a long time to come.

btw Taliban delegation arrived in Islamabad to discuss Afghan reconciliation process.................. feel sorry for Ghani :P

Do you know what it means? Afghan regime which is basically Indian puppet, its fate will be decided with or without their consent.

In think the Afghan problem will be solved between Pakistan and China, and that is the reason why other two member of quadrilateral group, Afghan regime and America are now making public noises.

Translation : we are only interested in Randi rona of taliban..if Pakistan settles the taliban issue amicability....it makes Afghanistan lose a huge PR opportunity against Pakistan in daily media..

So you think Af will prefer to loose thousands every year, their women and children murdered daily, their institutions blown up every week so that they can continue blaming Pakistan. You have a really unique way of thinking which should be lauded.

He says as he seeks Pakistan's help in peace talks.

Just a day ago, Afghan authorities got word that Pakistan has almost convinced every major group willing to talk, to come to the table. Talks are expected to begin shortly.

This is mainly for domestic audience, to make it seem like they're tough.

Honestly speaking? Considering how many warlords (both government and insurgent) are profiting from this war, would you really be that surprised, if they really didn't want the war to end? War economy is a real thing, and a lot of bad people profit off of it.

Honestly speaking, what worth is all the money when you can die 10 ways to Sunday during casual stroll in Kabul Markets.

Most human prioritize security over economic gains.

The americans could not decisevely defeat the Afghan Taliban and ended up negotiating with them when they bragged that they would never negotiate with terrorists ever. If the world's most powerful military machine cannot defeat them how on earth can Pakistan, ANA or even india stop the Afgan taliban? Some people's logic beggers belief. What is it do the Afghans REALLY want from us?

Its all beyond Pakistan control. Because lots of anti Pakistan elements are active, even Pakistan try to do with its best sincerity nothing would happen. Better put Afghanistan under full UNO control.

Afghanistan has lot of bearing on pakistans economic progress, they simply cannot wish them away like that. Unstable afghanistan means violence in pakistan. Bravado and rhetorics will not fetch any economic development.

This is called desperation on Afghan side and they are playing in Indian hands. Indians are clapping like you are at your friends problems. Hope Afghans really understand who can be real friends.

India is not involved in the Afghan mess. Indian aid is limited to economic reconstruction and collecting intel on the bad guys.

I cannot say that for Pakistan
