Pakistan will launch a two-seater version of JF-17 - Induction of JF-17B in 2017

There seems to be confusion over the engine choice of the Chinese-Pakistan jointly manufactured JF-17 fighter aircraft.

A report in Want China Times on Tuesday quoting a Moscow based publication states that the JF-17 Thunder aircraft is likely to be equipped with Snecma’s M88-2 engine. M88-2 currently powers Rafale twin-engine fighter designed by Dassault for the French Air Force.

However earlier reports by a Pakistani newspaper, Express Tribune reported that Pakistan will be importing engines from Russia directly following an NOC from China. Currently, the fighter is equipped with Russian origin engines.

“Pakistan was importing engines via China earlier. China has recently issued a no objection certificate (NOC) to Pakistan. Both the nations were earlier producing the fighter as a joint venture,” The Express Tribune Daily had reported 14 February.

“The Chinese NOC now allows Pakistan to import fighter jet engines from Russia directly,” the source said. “This will not only reduce the cost of production of the fighter jet but will also lead to enhanced defense cooperation between Russia and Pakistan,” the newspaper had quoted unnamed sources.

China and Pakistan plan to display a two-seater version of FC-1 Xiaolong multirole fighter aircraft during the Paris Air Show held from June 15-21 this year. FC-1 is also known as JF-17 Thunder, Want China Times reported earlier.

Confusion Over Pakistan-Chinese JF-17 Fighter's Engine Selection
French engine will be used in two seater version not one seater

JF-17 can work with Russian or French or Chinese engine. That was the whole point of the program. To make a plane which can take in Hardware from different sources.
Pretty much this.

The French engines were a rumor though, and was related to the twin-engine version. I doubt it's authenticity, as there is a higher chance of the EJ-200 than the M88, and I don't think even that is going to happen.

The Russian engines are fine, and if Russia reportedly delivers a promised upgraded RD engine to Pakistan, then there will be no need for European or Chinese engines at all.

From the very beginning PAF was interested in French Avionics suite for Thunder. But at taht time the Upgrade contract of IAF Mirage-2000 and with hopes the French Rafale might grab MMRCA brought India in driving seat and it then pressurized France to refuse the avionics suite for thunders. Now as MMRCA is gone for a long time and 36 Rafale purchase deal almost finalised, PAF might find itself getting the French Avionics suite along with an engine for Thunder.

Pakistan and China has begun work on two sweater version of JF-17 also known as JF -17 B

Jf17B is planned to test flight by end of 2016 or start of 2017.............
For PAF it is not a urgent demand, but for customers it is crucial......
So Jf17B will find its way in PAF later, first it will fill the orders of customers particularly Nigeria and Myanmmar.

Yes it would take first flight later this year and will join PAF in 2017
