Russia blocks sale of engines for Sino-Pak fighter jets

atlast some Indian fan boys have agreed to what JF17 is really capable of doing. we have always been listening from them that JF17 is no match for the Migs 29 and the Su27 let alone the Su 30! the only plane that JF can match, and, that too just to some extent will be the Mig21.

now here we have the Russians, the manufacturers, blocking engines for JF, creating hurdles, just because that get the feeling the JF17 will be preferred over there Mig 29 in internation market.

for me this is really a great motivation news. we will inshallah sort this issue and the news will inshallah serve as advertisement for JF17 in export market.

Long Live Pakistan!!

regards!

There is no doubt JF-17 is a good Aircraft but how good it is, time will tell when this will be used against any AC or when this AC take part in some friendly exercise. Comparing this AC with what its adversaries are having is not correct. First of all this is light weight AC so why to compare this AC with Medium weight or Heavy weight ACs?

As long as its competition is concerned with Mig-29 , Prime factor is "PRICE" where JF-17 will have advantage. Mig-29 beat JF-17 in all other aspects, whatever u take, TOW ratio, range , payload , manuverability, proved fighter, Avoinics etc.
There are some countries whose requirements are only for light fighters by looking at their adversaries list, their budget and real requirements. So if by blocking engine supply Russians can grab their orders, at higher price for Mig-29, then whats wrong in it. All nations see their intrests. So if they refuse to supply engines for JF-17, that doesnot mean JF-17 beat Mig-29 or comes in same leauge of Mig-29.

Pride aside, I think Pakistanis should be alarmed with this issue, not because the JF-17 will not fly, but they may just end up being entirely dependent on Chinese tech as far as this aircraft is concerned.

The French avionics was declined and now engines for export, so any advancements on this machine will be purely Chinese as I don't see any other country wanting to risk its technology copied through this Pakistan-Chinese alliance. The Russians are sending out a strong message to the world. This would only make any potential western upgrades to JF-17 much much tougher IMO.

So in that sense this is a set back for this project, unless of course that is what the PAF wanted from the start, which of course is not true from what i've read. This may be a minor set back, but regardless it makes the JF-17 less potent since it may not have any western upgrades to it as far as India is concerned!

my 2 cents :mod:

CAS is always considered as a major operational mission for any other modern jet. Make of the particuler jet doesn't determine its mission planning and combact use. I failed to understand your contention of lack of pressing need of PLAAF for CAS role which is major area of warfighting in the light of evolving nature of battlefield. Heck, USAF's many modern jet of Vipers and F-15 catagory were proving to be a major airborne jets known for effective CAS Role.

ive updated my previous post with the links from which ive quoted.-- moreover the requirements of different countries are different according to there location , doctrine , amount of arsenal etc

Alhamdolillah the version of JF17 fighter which is coming out in near future is inshallah going to outclass/outperform any fighter in the world and that will amaze the world. It will have all Pak/china joint capabilities.

Alhamdolillah....
Bro inshallah the near future version of JF17 is going to supercede all aircrafts around the world even the F22/F35 in its capabilities.
Alhamdolillah that will be enough to amaze the world in PAF tech advancement.Let them feel happy for right now.

Hi, time will tell how good the JF-17 will be. I am more of the optimist. If the PAF can get a decent AESA radar, good BVRs and integrate the WS-13 engine it will be a decent bird. Hopefully, we will find more information once the Farnborough Airshow happens. I am hoping more details about its capabilities are released. I personally prefer this plane over the sanction prone F-16s. Take care.

I have rarely seen 'big brother' directly hurting you. They've given you what u want. But they won't stand by and watch you take away their market, especially when one of your prime motivations is related to foreign policy (kooky efforts to arm & prop up pak). They've gotta take care of their industry and look at one of their top customers (India). Why would they jeopradize their relationship with us who are buying everything from Su 30 to Pak Fa to Mig 29K to Submarines- for the sake of some 100 engines??? The engines are EXPENDABLE when compared to the relationship (even purely business one) with us.

With an exception of advocating competition in a free market (of pure business), I agree with that anyone would be cozy with a wimpy customer who can’t copy, much less produce.

Hi,

Most of the posts if written 10 years ago by my neighbours would have been a major concern to both pak and china----but as of today---they don't mean very much---.

The two major chinese projects the Ws 10 and 13 are going to see service within the next two years---the missile technology as well as the ew and radar technology is advancing exponentially on a rapidly upwards grading line---.

Within two years time we will have a maturing Jf 17 as well as an upcoming J 10 B system along with a potent radar and bvrs---and within five to ten years time period---there will be a twin engine twin tails ADF---.

So, there is no loss to china or pakistan at this stage---if pakistan had acquired an air dominance fighter from china with a russian engine and then russia sanctioned that engine----that would have been a big concern---but incidently the jf 17 is a ground pounder---for ground support attacks---it doesn't change anything in the power balance in the area---so basically---nothing doing.

Mastan,

Can you elaborate on term "ground pounder" ?

So PAF should only replace A-5s with then, why replacing whole fleet of mirages, F-7s and A-5 ? Is PAF not aware of its zero air to air capability and its in adequacy in air to air as per Mastan Khan?

Hi,

Nabil how are you doing? You know it is mango season in pakistan and it has been close to 20 plus years that I had a real pakistani mango here in the U S---we get those manila mangos---not the same---but better than nothing. You know what----eat a mango for me please and let me know how it tastes. Thanks. MK
