A possibility for new Navy fleet ship could be to use the longer Type 052D hull, convert it to IEP, modify the hangar area to take 2 x Z-20, change some of the superstructure to be a bit like Type 055, add 8-16 slant launchers.
China Daily reports it is Shandong, No.17
From the China Daily report:
President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, took part in the commissioning ceremony for the colossal ship, named after the...
I don't understand your issue sorry. There is no size descriptor of a ballistic missile. The word ballistic has to do with its trajectory. What is the problem here? I really don't understand.
Apologies I posted this under the 052 thread by mistake:
The VLS on the 055 are 9 meters long by .85 meter in diameter, correct?
That allows for a very large missile. I was looking at China's ballistic missiles and the DF-11A is 8.5 meters long by .8 meters in diameter. What if the 055 was...

Deino the actual significance of this post is as follows:
"China has opened the bid to construct its first nuclear-powered icebreaker support ship, a move to prepare for the construction of a nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, military observers said."
From the English version of Chinamil.
After seeing the CSIC image of the possible 003 aircraft carrier, I thought the ship looked not much bigger than PLANS 16 Liaoning and the 002 carrier. Now I realise it was only a CGI, and the angle was not the best for a comparison, but it didn’t look to me like an 80000 tonne vessel.
Now I am...
I think if the 3rd carrier is broadly 80000-85000 tonnes, c.320 meters long and c.80 beam across flight deck, has at least 3 and preferable 4 deck-edge lifts, and has 3 catapults aligned so planes can be ready to launch and not interfere with aircraft landing, it will be an excellent platform...
Deino,
I think you asked when steel first cut on PLANS 17 (?). Not a direct correlation but I think November 2013 (source xinhuanet politics 2017-04/26/c_1120875256.htm)
