QUETTA: Three people were killed and four injured on Thursday in the first bloody clash between the armed supporters of the newly chosen chief of the Bugti tribe, Nawab Aali Bugti, and the Baloch militants supporting Nawabzada Bramdagh Bugti.

The dead included a commander of the new Nawab and his brother.

According to reports, armed supporters of Aali Bugti, who was made the 3rd Nawab of the Bugti tribe in a jirga this week, raided a settlement of Goth Umer Shalwani presumably to carry out a search operation in the Shori area in the Bugti foothills.

The inhabitants resisted the raid and began shooting. The exchange of fire continued for several hours. Both sides used rockets and light weapons. Troops intervened later.

A spokesman of the Baloch Republican Army (BRA), Sarbaz Baloch, confirmed the incident.

Political and security experts had predicted the rise of serious internal differences among the supporters of the two grandsons of Nawab Akbar Bugti.

The supporters of Bramdagh Bugti, who runs the Baloch Republican Party (BRP), had rejected the recent jirga in Sui, which nominated Aali as the new Nawab, saying Bramadgh was the real successor of Nawab Bugti.

They also alleged that the jriga had been sponsored by the government in order to “divide and rule” the Bugtis.

Following the deadly clash on Thursday, security forces tightened the security arrangements in the area and began to patrol the sensitive areas of the Bugti settlement.

Do you think that the events in Balochistan can spill into Karachi or Kabul?

No. Doant think so. War of successions are common in these scenarios. And basically its all about money & wealth, no idealogy involved.
