By-polls: Awami League wins Bogra Sadar seat first time since 1973

EVMs were used in the elections, but the EC did not install CCTV cameras in the polling centres.

By-elections to six constituencies ended without any major untoward incident on Wednesday, but voter turnout was very thin, according to Election Commission officials.

The six constituencies which went to polls are Thakurgaon-3, Bogra-4 and 6, Chapainawabganj 2 and 3, and Brahmanbaria-2.

Electronic voting machines (EVMs) were used in the elections, but the EC did not install CCTV cameras in the polling centres.

Ruling Awami League's Ragebul Ahsan Ripu won the Bogra-4 (Sadar) constituency by bagging 49,336 votes against independent candidate Abdul Mannan Akanda.

Ripu is the first Awami League candidate to win the seat after 1973.

In Bogra-4 seat, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD) candidate AKM Rezaul Karim Tansen defeated his closest rival, Ashraful Islam Alam alias Hero Alam, by 800 votes.

In Thakurgaon-3, Jatiya Party's Hafiz Uddin Ahmed defeated the Awami League's rebel candidate Gopal Chandra Roy by around 34,000 votes. Returning Officer Shahtabuddin announced the results.

In Brahmanbaria-2, Abdus Sattar Bhuiyan, former adviser to BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, again won Brahmanbaria-2 by-elections as an independent candidate. He secured 40,817 votes, while his closest rival Abdul Hamid Bhasani got 9,500 votes.

District Returning Officer and District Commissioner Shahgir Alam announced the results.

It looks only die hard BAL and die hard anti BAL people came to vote, specially in Bogra - 4 .

As hero Alom got 19571 votes! And other one got 800 more votes than him!

Borga always has been the stronghold of BNP , hence no reason for common BNP and BAL supporters to vote under this govt , as everyone knows that BAL doesn't have any chance of winning in Bogra!

Even BAL never won in Bogra 5 ( in any fair election) , where they have some ground!

(However people believe that less than 5% voter voted , but that's different argument)

In Bogra-4 seat, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal (JaSoD) candidate AKM Rezaul Karim Tansen defeated his closest rival, Ashraful Islam Alam alias Hero Alam, by 800 votes

Hero Alom can't lose. Rigging must have happened. :D

Well @Valar. , hero Alam can lose anywhere. But the point was different!

BAL or any BAL ally can't win in any constituency in Bogra! It's absolute truth! ( Bogra is much more pro BNP than even feni , the birthplace of Khaleda Zia, as Bogra is birthplace of Ziaur Rahman , and supporting BNP is actually a cult here , other than Bogra - 5 , where BAL has decent amount of vote)

Same goes for Gopalganj, it's BAL stronghold!

And even in this anti BAL era , there is no possibility to win in Gopalganj other than BAL in future! It's also absolute truth in Bangladesh!

So there is no way to think otherwise!

(However, in 1991 election, a man from another party got more vote than Hasina herself in Tungi para upazila ( where Hasina was born) of Gopalganj 3 ( Gopalganj is BAL Stronghold) !

Hasina won the election for the vote of people of kotali para upazila!)

Situation later changed, and now no way that anyone can even contest against hasina in her home town!

Here is election results of Gopalganj - 3

And here is Bogra -4
