Congress MP Rahul Gandhi claimed that China is preparing itself to wage a war against India, however, the incumbent Modi government is not accepting the reality and hiding facts from the country.

Addressing a press conference, Gandhi made the shocking remarks amid the clash between Indian Army and troops of China's People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Tawang area of Arunachal Pradesh on December 9.

Speaking to the reporters, Gandhi said the BJP-led government at the Centre is only focussed on event management and hiding facts from the country in regards to Chinese aggression.

China is aggressively preparing in Ladakh and Arunachal Pradesh, but the Indian government is sleeping, the Gandhi scion said.

Rahul Gandhi's comments came after PLA troops tried to transgress the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Yangtse area of Tawang Sector and unilaterally change the status quo. The Indian Army thwarted the Chinese attempt to transgress into the Indian territory.

The ensuing face-off between the soldiers of India and China led to a physical scuffle in which the Indian Army bravely prevented the PLA from transgressing into its territory and compelled them to return to their posts.

The scuffle led to injuries to a few personnel of the Army, however, there were no fatalities or serious casualties on Indian side.

Giving detauls of the Tawang clash incident, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh told Parliament that due to timely intervention of Indian military commanders, PLA soldiers went back to their locations after the clash.

Local Commander in the area held a Flag Meeting with his counterpart on December 11, 2022 to discuss the issue in accordance with established mechanisms, Singh informed Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.

The Defence Minister said China has been asked was to refrain from taking such actions and maintain peace and tranquility along the border.

This guy will say anything to undermine the current government. I guess it's to be expected as it's pretty much his job.

The truth of the matter is that any ruling government will have a tough time making decisions in the current geopolitical climate. India is at a disadvantage geopolitically, geographically, militarily and economically when in comes to China. The China-Pakistan partnership could easily turn into a nightmare situation for India if Pakistan were to be politically and economically stable with an appetite for confrontation with India. We are lucky that is not the case at the moment. Geographically, the siliguri corridor and the neglected North-Eastern states are an achilles heel for India. Any prolonged gloves-off conflict with China will pose a significant threat to these states.

Our army is nowhere near as modernised as China's. Our Navy is probably the best branch of the defence forces yet still lags behind China's and even its' own goal in terms of fleet size, not to mention our two carriers are not yet up to full operational capability. Our airforce is quickly becoming outdated with very few current gen planes, namely 36 Rafales. Our ground attack aircraft are almost vintage at this point barring the Mirage 2000s and the backbone 260+ Su30s will need their upgrade asap. Economically speaking, we are 1/6th the size of China.

Given these challenges, current government and successive ones for that matter would do well to avoid a showdown with China. We need to focus on growning our economy at at least the same rate, ideally faster. The current government is doing the right thing by spendiing valuabe resources on infrastruture and industrialisation.
