“Bottom line,” Karber’s report said, “200 million lost, and surviving Americans will be living in the dark, on a subsistence diet, with a life style and life expectancy equivalent to the Dark Ages.”

If China's leadership was really stupid enough to conduct such a debacle they would be signing the death certificate of their existence and people the U.S can easily re-commission thousands of warheads from the hedge stockpile from the cold war era that can deliver blast yields up into the MT range. Essentially both powers would be risking sending the entire planet back to the stone age the nuclear fallout would spread to other parts of the world resulting in global disaster.
