BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- The first deep-water drilling rig developed in China will be put into service in the South China Sea on Wednesday, the country's largest offshore oil producer said Monday.

The sixth-generation semi-submersible CNOOC 981 will begin operations in a sea area 320 kilometers southeast of Hong Kong at a water depth of 1,500 meters, China National Offshore Oil Corp. (CNOOC) said in a press release.

It will be the first independent deep-water oil drilling by a Chinese company, marking "a substantial step" made by the country's deep-sea oil industry, CNOOC said.

About 70 percent of oil and gas reserves in the resource-rich South China Sea is contained in 1.54 million square km of deep-water regions, or sea areas with depths of over 300 meters.

However, most of China's current offshore oil exploration is conducted less than 300 meters below the surface.

The South China Sea is estimated to have 23 billion to 30 billion tonnes of oil and 16 trillion cubic meters of natural gas, accounting for one-third of China's total oil and gas resources.

Good that's a safe area for the semi submersible, anywhere further southwest we have to be careful with the sneak attacks by Vietnam. She seems to be good at it.

Mind you read the article carefully? :coffee:

This water area is closer to China than to both Vietnam and Philippines.

They haven't received any of their steel coffins from Russia, while their current tugboats will be lucky to sail that far from their coast.

For us, its South China Sea(disputed)....for you it might be your part of sea as it happens in most of the cases wherein you have a dispute with other countries...I would like to see something from Viet guys if they are active in this forum

We are drilling in the areas that with rich oil fields and natural gas, but it is also closer to our coast, so they shouldn't make any complaint as they are making the same claim on China's historical islands.

China's historical islands should belong to them because it is closer to their coast.

Now China's coastal water should also belong to them because it contains rich oil fields and natural gas?!

Now what kind of double standard logic is this? :coffee:

That's the logic of imperialists and thieves.

Step by Step, they are not reasonable and drag other power into SCS, we don't need to care about their feeling! If china is weak, what will they do? easily image!! Step by Step, One day, we just need make the rule, any unauthorized boat cross the line, just sink it, and bomb the island they occupied!! it is not worth to send any proof to prove they are mine, because they don't believe it, they assert that that is theirs, No logical, no reason. their proof is right, ours are wrong, and fake, that's all!!
What should do is just building more warship, trainning harder, If you can't make main power -USA outside the line, you should talk less, more action, develop your defence, the day is not too far!!!

glad to hear...lets see what happens next!

It's not inside dispute zone in SCS, so they can do what ever they want.

We are speeding up our naval defence, so hopefully the stability could be reestablished in the region. :coffee:

The Chinese don't even call it the "South China Sea." They call it the "South Sea." It was the British who mapped it as SCS and the ocean facing South Asia, the "Indian Ocean."

Aquino Open to China Sea Oil Deal Separate From Territory Spat - Bloomberg

LOL Aquino has been told by his daddy to back down and like a good boy he did. Now he offers a joint development with China in SCS. And other ASEAN members blamed Vietnam and Philippines as trouble makers.
Philipine offered joint development with China many time already, but the deal broke down simply bcz of VN's intervention.

Learn the history before talking like Low IQ kid, dude:coffee:

Don't do stupid thing inside our claim

it's first name was Cochinchine, means: sea of Jiaozhi(Old VN name) near China

and former China dynasty never put SCS(east sea) on her map.
