Dozen of miscreants arrested in Balochistan: Sherpao

ISLAMABAD, Dec 28 (APP): Interior Minister Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao Wednesday said that dozen of miscreants have been arrested and arms seized during paramilitary action in Balochistan "The charges against the arrested would be brought after thorough investigation which is underway," he told reporters during a visit to a tent village housing quake victims in H-II sector of Islamabad. "The government is committed to carry forward the already launched mega development projects costing rupees 130 billion in the province without any hinderance," he said.

He said the action was against miscreants who were trying to obstruct the development process in Balochistan and vowed that the government would ensure smooth execution of the projects. Sherpao said the paramilitary forces had acted only against the miscreants and no one in the civil population was affected. All Sardars (tribal chiefs) of Balochistan should assist the government in the development work for economic uplift and well-being of the province and its people, Sherpao said. "The government is determined to ensure complete law and order in the province and it would not tolerate any anti-development or anti-people activities." he said.

At the tent village sheltering about 10,000 earthquake affected people, Sherpao inspected the makeshift schools, medical units and vocational facilities. He appreciated the efforts made by CDA, administration, NGOs and philanthropists to assist the quake victims at the tent village, which is the largest such camp in Pakistan. He said that initial reconstruction work in quake-hit areas had been started, which would gain momentum after the end of the current harsh winter when people would go back to their places and rebuild their homes with government assistance.
