During the construction of the city, many villages located at the foothills of Margalla such as Noorpur Shahan, Shahdara Saidpur and Golra Sharif have been declared rural areas of Islamabad and their original form has been maintained. Syedpur and Shah Allah Ditta are the oldest villages.

The old name of Saidpur was Fatehpur Baoli It was first settled in 1530 by Mirza Fateh Baig, an elder of the Mughals. In 1580, Man Singh gave this jagir to Said Khan Gakhar on his way to Kabul. Later it was named Saidpur after Said Khan. Said Khan was a descendant of Sultan Sarang Khan.

There were two famous Hindu asthans, Ram Kund, Lachman Kund and a temple, the remains of which are still there. During the Musharraf era, Syedpur was upgraded to the status of a model village. The majority of the Gakhar community is in this village, while Janjua Rajput, Awan, Pirkanjan Mughal, Dhaniyal, Gujjar, Minhas, Rajput, Bhatti and Syed also live in this village.

There was a village called Baghan or Bagh Kalan near the current Aab-Para. The construction of Islamabad city was started in October 1961 from this Bagh Kalan village.

Aabpara Market, a crowded commercial zone located at the south west of sector G-6, Islamabad, along Khayaban-e-Suharwardy is the oldest market of capital city of Pakistan.
Many people are still alive to recall their childhood memorized landscape of today's Aabpara Market, but only few people can tell what is in the name of this market.
The sector G-6 was first residential sector of capital city, where initially the government quarters were constructed to provide accommodation to government employees.
The occupants in these quarters were working in those government departments, which were transferred from Karachi to Rawalpindi following the decision to build new federal capital in Islamabad.
Most of the employees in these departments at that time were belonging to West Pakistan or today's Bangladesh.
An old inhabitant and former employee of Capital Development Authority (CDA) stated the nomenclature 'Aabpara market' as a name of market after the name of a baby girl 'Aabpara', who was the first child of this locality belongs to a Bengali family.
The old pictorial record of civic body also endorsed this historical fact as a picture of the wife of then CDA's head is available in archive who visited the home of said baby girl 'Aabpara' to congratulate her parents. The word "Aabpara" is a combination of two Persian words 'Aab' means water and Para means piece so if we look for the literal meaning, it is "The Water Well".
Here the question is what was before Aabpara, a historical reference tells that the father of great sufi saint Shah Abul Latif Kazmi (Bari Imam), Syed Mehmood Shah, shifted his family from Jhelum District to Baghan village, presently called Aabpara.
