Indian Coast Guard Ship Rajdoot, designed and built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers here, was commissioned by Controller General of Defence Accounts Arunava Dutt at a function here Monday.

ICGS Rajdoot, the sixth in the series of eight inshore patrol vessels (IPVs) displaces 300 tons and can achieve a maximum speed of 34 knots. It is capable of several tasks including surveillance, interdiction, search and rescue and medical evacuation.

Inspector General K. C. Pande, Commander, Coast Guard Region (Northeast), was among officials present at the function.

The ship is fitted with state-of-the art communication and navigation equipment including an integrated bridge management system and a 30 mm CRN-91 gun as the main armament.

Rajdoot will be based at New Mangalore under Coast Guard Region (West). It will enhance the Coast Guard’s capability to undertake operations to improve maritime and coastal security on the western seaboard.

An official release said the ship has a crew of five officers and 30 personnel.

With the commissioning of ICGS Rajdoot, the ICG’s force level has gone up to 82 ships and boats.
