Indian working with UN held for alleged sexual abuse
Indian working with UN held for alleged sexual abuse - Hindustan Times

An Indian working with the United Nations at a mid-ranking level has been arrested on sexual abuses charges filed by a woman colleague.
According to the website Inner City Press, Dushyant Joshi is the head of the UN's Emergency Preparedness unit. Joshi was
arrested on Tuesday.

New York Police Department spokesman John Grimpel said Joshi was arrested for a complaint filed in October 2011 of sex abuse in a bar near the UN headquarters.

Joshi faces charges of third-degree sexual abuse, the NYPD said. The charge carries a prison term of three months.

The woman had filed the complaint against Joshi through the UN internal justice system as well as with the police in which she said Joshi had forcefully kissed and touched her on June 3, 2011.

According to a media report, UN spokesman Martin Nesirky said he could only speak about the investigation done by the UN, not about actions taken by New York police.

"We can confirm that an internal process was recently completed," he said adding "This is a confidential process and, therefore, we are not in a position to provide any further comment".

that is disgusting. she will be scarred for life

That's sad for the victim. She has to live with the painful memory for life while the sex abuser only gets 3 months of jail time !

he should be get the Capital Punishment

I do not know about capital punishment but I think in this case the punishment for an Indian forcing a woman to kiss him is worthy certainly of more than three months. I mean this is probably going to encourage them to do it again.

Guys calm the eff down. Did you hear anything like this response when the news of numerous members of Pakistani security forces uner UN committed acts of sexual misconduct when on deployment not too long ago? Be measured in your responses, the punishment reflects the seriousness or lack there of, of the crime. Don't be so bloody transparent and predictable.

The perpetrator got the maximum punishment for such crime under the law......

Therefore, instead of worrying about American laws.....you guys should worry about Pakistani laws which makes the rape victim a criminal

Aww as usual Indian obsessed with Pakistan. Go to some other thread. This is about an Indian not getting a punishment for forcing himself on a poor American. But then I think their is contributory negligence on American govt who gave the visa knowing full well the following statistics:

Discrimination against Women in India

There are an estimated 40 million Hindu widows in India, the least fortunate of them shunned and stripped of the life they lived when they were married. It’s believed that 15,000 widows live on the streets of Vrindavan, a Hindu holy city of about 55,000 population in northern India. Many widows – at least 40per cent are said to be under 50 – are dumped by their relatives in religious towns and left to live off charity or beg on the streets. Their plight was highlighted in Deepa Mehta’s award-winning film Water, which had to be shot mainly outside India because of Hindu extremist opposition to the production.

Nearly 9 out of 10 pregnant women aged between 15 and 49 years suffer from malnutrition and about half of all children (47%) under-five suffer from underweight and 21 % of the populations are undernourished. India alone has more undernourished people (204 million) than all of sub-Saharan Africa combined. Nearly 20 % of women dying in childbirth around the globe are Indians. Six out of every 10 births take place at home and untrained people attend more than half of them. 44 % of the Indian girls were married before they reached the age of 18. It added, 16 % of girls in the age group 15-19 years were already mothers or expecting their first child and that pregnancy is the leading cause of mortality in this age group.

On an average one Indian woman commits suicide every four hours over a dowry dispute. During Indian marriage, women should bring jewellery, cash and even consumer durables as part of dowry to the in-laws. If they fail, the victims are burnt to death – they are doused in kerosene and set fire to. Routinely the in-laws claim that the death happened simply due to an accident.

Rape is the fastest growing crime in India. Every hour Indian women face two rapes, two kidnappings, four molestations and seven incidents of cruelty from husbands and relatives [National Crime Records Bureau Report 2006]

in Dubai a security guard raped a school girl and was punished for 6 months in jail shame should be hanged
