Mardomsalari releases candidate list, 2 principlists on list
TEHRAN, Feb. 18 (MNA) – The reformist leaning Mardomsalari Front (Democracy Front) released its list of candidates for the Tehran constituency on Saturday as the countdown begins for the March 2 parliamentary election.

The 15-member list includes moderate reformists and independents as well as two principlist candidates, namely Ali Motahari and Hamidreza Katouzian, who are campaigning for the election under the banner “the voice of nation.”

Among the leading candidates on the Mardomsalari list are pro-worker candidates Alireza Mahjoub and Soheila Jelodarzadeh and former female MP Elahe Rastgou.

The Mardomsalari Front is set to announce the names of its 100 candidates across the county in the coming few days.

Majid Mohtashami, the spokesman for the front, said that either Seyyed Hossein Hashemi or Elahe Rastgou will be put on top of the front’s list.

However, Hashemi, the chairman of the Majlis Industries Committee, told the Mehr News Agency that he will not accept to be on top of the list of any group or faction and that he is contesting the election as an independent candidate.

Hashemi said that seven groups, including Mardomsalari Front, House of Laborer, Supporters of Velayat, and Coalition of Jihadists, want to put his name on their lists in Tehran.

Hashemi, a four-time lawmaker from the northwestern city of Mianeh, is running for parliament from the Tehran constituency.
