Leaving Afghanistan, and the Lessons of America’s Longest War

Indians know they have a limited window.
Soon as the Americans leave Pakistanis can initiate short term conflict on LoC that may go towards a full fledged war .

The window has remained open for 10 years.

India is a sitting duck, militarily. Her economy is another game altogether.

Modern conflicts are quite complicated

Agree. Even Economy is under severe Question Marks.
India is going to face massive food shortages too.
Modi's evil plans are backfiring on him spectacularly.

We have shattered the myth of the worlds so called formidable undefeated highest budgeted military not only once but twice.
USA strike fear by creating hype through it's media . In reality those yanks aren't great fighters . I would rather say US soldiers are average on ground. This war in afghanistan has proved that you can't win a war solely by using a superior technology or a fat budget. You have to be a good fearless motivated soldier on ground who has no problem dying for driving invaders out of his country.
This is a lesson for phake newj brigade as well.
Saddam Hussein also believed that Americans cannot fight on the basis of his views about Vietnam War. So what became of him and his once-great army when he decided to take his chances with US-led forces?

US wanted to dismantle Al-Qaeda Network in AfPak region. This is why Afghanistan was invaded and Pakistan was taken onboard for the needful. Everything else was negotiable, and so it happened.

American troops are average on ground? Superior technology does not make any difference whatsoever? Let us see.

Superior technology delivers in actual BATTLES (military operations). Afghan Taliban could not hold their ground against American troops in direct clashes in virtually any battle to be fought between them.

Americans do not have to prove anything in this region however. This isn't DO or DIE front for them. Survival of USA is not at stake in this front to begin with.

This war was shaped by political considerations in large part and its longevity appealed to the American military industrial complex for obvious reasons. American politicians do not care much about Afghanistan in reality. Even the Chinese are surprised to see that the Americans were willing to throw its own creation (i.e. the Afghan government) under the bus after having agreements with Afghan Taliban.

The matter of concern is that USA is leaving Afghanistan in a state of chaos. Now Pakistan is to take responsibility for this mess?

India will be foolish to not let the opportunity go against Pakistan which they may not get this century again.

The subsequent actions you are talking about cannot be a result of just 1 month of 'talks'.

Those articles you mentioned are as true as what US was lying about winning a war on ground and feeding that bullcrap to it's masses . Apparently you are one of them who buys that .
It's not just the US ,it's the British,Russians as well. History don't lie . There is a reason it's called graveyard of empires. If tech and their superior fighting really worked in their favor then there first priority should have been to completely eliminate taliban . But here after 20 years they are negotiating with the same taliban ,means those bunch of losers can't win .
Invading a country and toppling a government is one thing, completing a invasion by permanently establishing yourself is another. A mighty USSR was also once invaded and puppet governments installed in it's large territory but history is evident how it's ended up for Germans .A short term simple invasion is nothing ,it's a long term end result which defines a loser or a winner.

The links that I provided disclose how the actual battles between Afghan Taliban and US-led forces panned out at a different point in time in Afghanistan; US-led forces routed Afghan Taliban from any sector where they fought each other. These battles are well-documented. Superior technology in capable hands will deliver results in actual battles (military operations) - always.

Eliminating Afghan Taliban? Have a good look at the distribution pattern of Afghan Taliban in Afghanistan. This will necessitate strategic bombing missions in which MILLIONS will die and claimed sanctuaries will be struck as well. No American administration is willing to make this call in reality. As I pointed out to you before, this isn't DO or DIE front for the Americans. They came for Al-Qaeda Network to avenge 9/11 and dismantled it in the region. Everything else was negotiable. Afghan Taliban were not declared terrorists at any point in time as a reminder. It would be a mistake to gauge American military prowess and utility of superior technology from war in Afghanistan. This is all.

@SecularNationalist boss you are not looking at US's objectives for any war and hence are assuming the outcome without taking them into account. US came after command and control of Al qaida in AfPak region and they destroyed their fighting capability to launch attacks outside Af pak regions. There is a reason why al qaida is looking for franchise in TTP now.

Americans war against Iraq was never to make it a democratic, first world country, it was all about removing Saddam Hussain and his army and we all know what happened to Iraq. While people assume that objectives of US war in Afghanistan were to kill every taliban and for nation building, in fact it was never the objective. Iraqis and Afghans have been assisted for their nation building and in the end they are responsible for that.

Afghanistan is graveyard of empires? While millions of Afghans are the ones who actually are buried in graveyards and their generations have been doomed for time to come. I am not sure how this is a victory.
