China..the usual purveyor of drugs in the world.

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – Police say they have detained a Chinese national after discovering a methamphetamine laboratory in Trinidad and Tobago.

A police statement said that the laboratory, which was located in San Fernando, was dismantled by officers of the Special Branch following an extensive intelligence-led operation spearheaded and through close partnership with United States law enforcement agencies.

It said that a search warrant executed at an upscale residential area last Thursday “resulted in the discovery of components assembled in the form of a clandestine laboratory.

“Officers also discovered a quantity of cash, precursor chemicals and packets of crystals of various sizes resembling that of methamphetamine. One national of the People's Republic of China was arrested in connection with the laboratory and the drugs seized,” the police statement said.

It said that investigations are ongoing into the matter and that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) remains undaunted in its commitment to the safety of citizens, urging members of the public to continue partnering with officers to combat criminal activities in their communities.

The statement quoted Police Commissioner Erla Christopher as sending “a clear warning to international, regional and local criminal groups, that the TTPS stands firm and resolute in its mandate to stamp out the scourge of illicit synthetic drugs which do great harm to our society”.

Meanwhile, head of the University of the West Indies (UWI) criminology department, Dr Randy Seepersad, says he is not surprised by the discovery of a methamphetamine (meth) lab in Trinidad.

Seepersad told Guardian Media that the discovery points to a new kind of drug on the market which could have deleterious effects on the population related to violence and crime, adding that it can put a strain on the healthcare system and shatter families.

“There could always be more. If somebody has the technology to do it and the know-how, chances are they could have disseminated that information to others. But it's a very, very difficult thing to detect.

“It is very, very troubling because it means that if somebody is manufacturing it, it will get out there into the environment, youths will start to use it, some people may even become addicted to it and that's where the danger comes in,” Seepersad said.

High IQ Bots: Trinidad and the US should first explain why they couldn’t arrest and try Walter White and Jessie Pinkman rather than going after innocent Chinese nationals.

I request CCP to issue a travel advisory against almost every country in the world.

It's not even the first time they have been busted in Trinidad. This is from January last year.

Four Chinese nationals were arrested and over $8 million worth of illegal drugs and a quantity of cash were confiscated during a drug bust in Trincity.

The incident took place during an intelligence-led exercise which was conducted in the Northern Division under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police, Central Intelligence Bureau, Deosaran on Wednesday.

During the exercise, a search warrant for firearms and ammunition was executed at a residence located at Olympia Avenue, Millennium Park, Trincity.

During a search of the premises, officers allegedly found and seized 201 glass vials, each labelled ‘Ketamin 10% INJ 23ml for Veterinary Use Only’, along with 76 zip lock packets each containing a white crystal-like substance resembling the dangerous drug Ketamine.

The officers also found and seized TT$33,775 in polymer notes, $865 Yen, TT$53 currency in cotton notes and a quantity of apparatus.

Jaicheng Jiang, 26, was arrested and subsequently charged by PC Gerald of the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) with possession of a dangerous drug, namely Ketamine for the purpose of trafficking.

The Ketamine, which weighed 12.7 kilograms, had a street value of $8,623,300.

Ketamine is a medication that doctors use as an anaesthetic to induce loss of consciousness.

Effects include sedation and reduced sensation of pain.

However, Ketamine is also used as a date-rape drug, to assist in committing a sexual assault.

Sexual assault is any type of sexual activity
that a person does not agree to.

Because of the effects of these drugs, victims may be physically helpless, unable to refuse sex, and unable to remember what happened.

Police believe that with this seizure, additional inroads have been made into the human-trafficking ring operating in Trinidad and Tobago, as drugs of this nature are used to prey on unsuspecting victims.

This seizure comes on the heels of the rescue of 27 Venezuelan women on December 3, 2021, when police busted a human-trafficking ring.

On Friday, a detention order was granted by Magistrate Dubay at the Arima Magistrate Court with respect to the quantity of cash seized at the premises, pending further investigations in accordance with the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Three other Chinese nationals, two men aged 38 and 29 and a 27-year-old woman, who were found at the premises were also arrested.

Further enquiries revealed that they were in the country illegally.
