Pakistani authorities today directed officials at airports across the country to bar former President Pervez Musharraf from going abroad.

The Federal Investigation Agency directed immigration officials at all international airports to stop Musharraf from travelling abroad, TV news channels reported.

The FIA formally issued written orders to immigration officials in this regard.

The move came a day after the Sindh High Court issued orders that Musharraf could not leave Pakistan without seeking the permission of courts that are hearing cases against him.

The High Court issued the directive while extending by 21 days the pre-arrest bail granted to 69-year-old Musharraf, in connection with several cases.

The former army chief, who ended nearly four years of self-exile by returning to Pakistan on March 24, was declared a fugitive by an anti-terrorism court in connection with the assassination of former premier Benazir Bhutto.

Musharraf has been accused of failing to provide adequate protection to Bhutto, who was killed by a suicide bomber in 2007.

Musharraf has also been named as an accused in connection with the killing of Baloch nationalist leader Akbar Bugti in a 2006 military operation.

Some reports said Musharraf's name had been included in the Exit Control List, a list of people barred from travelling out of Pakistan though this could not be independently confirmed.

Musharraf plans to lead his All Pakistan Muslim League party in the upcoming general election.

He has filed his nomination papers for three parliamentary constituencies in Karachi, Chitral and Islamabad.

This was only to be expected. To start with the HC had granted him ad-interim bail in the cases. Bail is accompanied by the condition that Travel Documents are surrendered so that the Bailee does not become a flight risk or fugitive.

The only thing is whether Musharraff is a dual national or not? In which case he possibly uses his foreign passport while handing in his Pakistani Passport. In which case Departure Control at Airports and other Exit Points will need to be notified to bar his exit.

He was not here to leave, he knew the consequences well and also he knew he will be put on ECL!

Once the elections are over & done with Musharraf may rue his decision to come back to Pakistan. God forbid.. If Nawaz Sharif somehow manages to play a role in forming of the central govt. Musharraf may end up in gallows. There is a lot of resentment towards him still by some quarters.

Mushy is a man not a coward.......He knew the consequences and is here to face em...

Hussain Haqqani had a strong case against him but what is the case against PM?

Why is caretaker govt. more interested in PM, rather than doing there job of conducting fair elections.. which they are failing miserably.
