Nigerian Women Pilgrims Traveling To Mecca Held In Saudi Arabia For Traveling Unescorted

SOKOTO, Nigeria -- Nigerian officials say 398 Muslim women pilgrims traveling to Mecca were temporarily held at a Saudi Arabian airport for traveling without male relatives.
A spokesman for Nigeria's National Hajj Commission said Saudi authorities held the Nigerian women between Thursday and Monday at King Abdulaziz Airport in Jeddah.

Spokesman Uba Mana said the women were allowed to proceed with their pilgrimage Monday following diplomatic intervention.

He said Saudi authorities held them for not traveling with a male relative due to a "communication gap."

He said an agreement between the countries exempts Nigerian women from requiring a male relative to escort them during the Hajj pilgrimage, which costs about $4,000 per person.

All able-bodied Muslims who can afford it are expected to perform Hajj at least once in their lives.

Men in these parts of the world probably not born to women. Else how one can disrespect the one who gives you birth .

Its a pre requisite for hajj...
Women who are still young cannot go to hajj without a 'mehram'.
If they havent got one, then hajj isnt necessary for them.
Breaking a pre requisite for a religious pilgrimage makes it null and void anyway..
Saudis being the custodians of those holy places have to impose the laws of shariah pertenent to the pilgrimage, nothing wrong here.

apparently you are not familiar with the rules because they were finally allowed to go forward ... prerequisite theory fail.

Hmmm...it IS a pre-requisite but if they do not have a mehram and are travelling in a group - it is allowed!

Soo? What's the problem? Why did this catch someone's notice enough to be posted here?

Was it 1st time someone was stopped? NO! Was it unusual? NOPE!

no,
Pre requisite isnt a theory..
The world has to poke their nose about everything that has to do with islam..may be the saudis bucked under pressure,or other factors were involved.

Yaar...Indonesian, Malaysian women always go in groups as they sometimes do not have mahram...I am talking about old ladies though...

The world did not poke nose, the nigerians did, blame them.

So you are saying that women are 2nd class citizens even when they want access to their prophet's blessed places...

must be me_ i just revere the individual who gives birth I guess.
