This thread is intended to share ideas for maintaining a PERMANENT civilian blockade of NATO supply routes through Pakistan.

It is not intended to debate the blockade itself -- if you disagree with the blockade, please avoid this thread.

We know that the politicians will reopen the routes once the heat is off; already they are backtracking from earlier claims of a 'permanent' blockade to a '10 day' blockade now. The military will also be under pressure to deescalate the situation. Therefore, it is up to civilians to enforce a permanent blockade.

Some suggestions:
- Green ribbon campaign to raise awareness and funds (PTI, college campuses).
- Set up a fund to support volunteers (expats can help).
- 24/7 webcam at each crossing site (Pakistani web server).
- Enlist national media to promote and monitor the blockade.
- Celebrity endorsements for the campaign.

These are the things that should happen in Pakistan:

a) Pakistan should close the supply lines for good
b) Ask them to evacuate Shamsi airbase
c) Clamp down on all sorts of US presence inside Pakistan
d) Boycott any co-operative meetings on Afghanistan's internal security with the US/NATO
e) Instead of burning bridges inside Afghanistan, the ISI should build a stake for itself in Afghanistan
f) Without any open confrontation with the US, Pakistan should make sure that the US feels the heat in Afghanistan

I don't know where you heard this '10 day' blockade from, this is what Rehman Malik (I know his word doesn't count for anything, but anyways) said:

NATO supply stopped permanently

Pakistan wants all that you have said but dont forget PPP (Pakistan Puppet Party) are in government and they have proved to be the biggest slaves of US in history of Pakistan.

Are you serious? Only 10-day blockage? This is outrageous. Any links?

Good intitiative Developereo, this issue now needs to get publicized rather than just stay in the NA.

Rehman Malik has said that , categorically, that NATO supplies are not suspended, but stopped permanently.

NATO supply stopped permanently

ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Sunday said that the supply of NATO has not been suspended rather it has been stopped permanently. Talking to reporters at National Crisis Management Cell of Ministry of Interior, he strongly condemned the NATO attack on Pakistani forces.

“NATO force should respect feelings of Pakistani nation.” He said the nation and the government were aggrieved on the death of 24 officials of Pakistani security forces in the wake of NATO aggression on Salala post in Mohmand Agency. He said the decisions of the Defence Cabinet Committee (DCC) on the NATO forces attack inside Pakistan would be implemented in letter and spirit. “The decisions of the DCC are final and would be implemented,” he added.

The minister said that NATO containers, which have been stopped, would not be allowed to cross the Pak-Afghan border. Malik said that the democratic government of Pakistan would not take dictation from anyone. Referring to security arrangements for Muharram, he said the security arrangements for the month of Muharram have been completed and foolproof security would be ensured across the country to maintain the sanctity of the holy month. He informed that the Rangers and police have been deployed in sensitive areas of Punjab, while the Army would maintain peace and order in Sindh during Muharram, adding that the Sindh police have been given extra powers to maintain law and order in the province. app

Lets see if PPP keeps its word, I seriously doubt it.

One better effective way to get this done is this:

Ask the political parties and Armed forces, to spell out their stand on this unequivocally. No ifs and buts, they should spell it out that they will not back track on this.

I guess PPP has a situation that it can turn it to its advantage if it enforces the permanent blockade and thereby winning the confidence of the people again.

All good ideas, but let's keep this thread focused on the blockade. Otherwise it will get derailed like everything else.

The politicians are snakes. We know that 100000%.

As soon as the heat is off, they will accept NATO apologies and explanations and it will be business as usual.

I am saying even if Obama makes a personal visit and apologizes, the routes WILL NOT REOPEN.

i agree with the blockade , but i am only afraid of the consequences.

Yes, there will be consequences but this is an anti-war civil disobedience movement, which is the hallmark of democracy. It must NOT be controlled by the government or the military.

set the afghan taliban , jeM , Hizb, dawood upon the higway from Pak to Afg. They will tear the trucks apart. Then Pak can say, "hey we could not do anything."

No need for terrorism or militancy. This is an anti-war civil disobedience movement.

I think we need to look at things in proper perspective. The article is saying that the NATO supply would be closed for 10 days until the US apologized. What if the US did not apologize in 10 days? Would it open the supply routes or not? Seems like a logical contradiction.

The article is not written well. The Bonn conference I believe is about to take place in 10 days. If the US does not apologize in 10 days, Pakistan will boycott this conference.

Let's look at what happened a couple of years ago. 'Accidental' NATO firing that killed 2 Pakistani soldiers at the border resulted in the supply route at Torkham being closed for over 3 weeks. This time, it is 24 troops killed not at the border region persay, but 2.5kms inside Pakistani territory.

I am not denying the politician part, no doubt. However the steps to be taken, listed by you will create awareness among the public, what about the decision makers? You see once you put pressure and that too a direct one on them to spell out their stance then they can't back track on it can they?

While the suggestions of yours should be followed, this can put forward a direct head ache to these snakes as they can't get around once spoken in public.
